I Think that is a great idea to teach classes , it will be very educational. But will it be like regular classes where there is times for it , or will it be an all nighter thing?

Good ideal hogfly
ok people.
I have received the first outline for AntiOnline IRC classes.
Our first class will be on the topic of: Introduction to PHP. taught by chsh.
The class will begin at 7 pm EST on July 10th.
join irc.antionline.com through the java chat or through your favorite IRC client. join the #class channel and enjoy.
People will be able to join the channel until 7:30 pm, the channel will then become private and people will just have to wait for the logs to come through.
entry time is 7-7:30 EST, be there if you want to learn some cool PHP.
hope to see a good turn out for our first class!!!!
hey hogfly,
I think you should earn a degree for this in AO! probabely as a Bachelor aor as a Doctor!
it's me V-I-R-U-S
That sounds great, it's so much easier to learn with input from others instead of on your own initiative, thanks for organising this hogfly! But...7-7.30pm EST = Midnight GMT! I will be sleepy, how long are you planning on having them last? Or is it just freeform? ^^
XXX
Unfortunately I am going to be on holidays in England that day, so I'll miss it :(
Sounds cool though, good look chsh. Maybe MsMittens can give you some pointers on controlling a class :D. Don't take no ****!
this is just to remind people about tonights class. 7 pm in irc.antionline.com #class.
Is there gonna be another class?
I have noticed alot of people asking questions about overclocking and figured I would do a beginners class on it. This class is open to all members and guests. The class will be held Friday August 2 at 6pm EST. The class will be held in the IRC servers here at AO. You can enter by clicking here. The class will be held in the room #class. Once you join the chat you will enter the room #antionline. Simply typeto join the classroom.Quote:
/join #class
I will be discussing the basics of how to overclock your computer, temperature issues, stability issues, the dangers of it, and answer questions the best I can. At 6pm the room will be locked and you will be unable to join, so show up and join the classroom 5 minutes early.
Overview
Overclocking is where you push your CPU past what the manufacturer has said the cpu's clock speed. (Mgz - Ghz). This can be done using two basic methods. Adjusting your Front Side Bus (FSB) speed, and by adjusting your multiplier (will be explained in class).
CPU Manufacturers test their chips at many different speeds before marking their speeds on them. The usual benchmark they try to hit is a failure rate of less than 0.5% at that speed. Manufacturers know that the best way to test a chip is to take a 1Ghz chip, and test it at 1.1 or 1.2Ghz. Then if it works okay at that speed, they slap the 1 Ghz rating on it. This is done to make their lawyers happy. So what does this mean? That means that we can push that speed a bit.
Now, There are some requirements that you will need in order to succesfully Overclock (OC) a chip.
- A good motherboard that has the ability to adjust the multiplier and FSB. I reccomend an ASUS.
- Good memory, not cheap memory.
- A good power supply and a well ventilated case.
- A good heat sink and fan.. very important.
- Balls... OC'ing is not for the meak or scared.
Understand that most OEM computers, ie.. Dell, Compaq, HP, or any other store bought computer, is most likly not going to be able to be OC'ed. Sorry.
Now, I am only going to give a beginners course here. I am not going to go into cutting or modifing the chips L1 L2, etc.. bridges. If you don't know what L1, or L2 means, don't worry about it, its not for you.
A last note: Overclocking improperly can cause damage and is only for experienced users. Although I do encourage any one that wants to learn abit to come to the class.
Hope to see you all there.
Ohhh, hogfly, you are so innovative. Ohhhhhhh.....hogfly hogfly
