just a general comment; and probably me being stupid as usual.............

We are an International forum who use English as our lingua franca. I know that even in England, the same word or phrase may have different meanings in different parts of the country...........

Our friend said that he "hacks in linux"..........if he is already doing this hacking (gaining unauthorised access).....why does he need any help?.............I did warn you that I was stupid :)

Another meaning of "hack" is to "achieve" or "get things done" as in: "he couldn't hack it"

Perhaps the gentleman meant that "I program in linux.......and am about to learn C, C++"?

I guess that I am not the World's best defence lawyer :)

As a side note freakydude thanked me for the link , so i highly doubt he had malicious intentions. He just did not pick the best word to use HERE , try going elsewhere (there is a mailing list called freebsd hackers) do they hack hotmail? ,no the hack freebsd the are people who are hackers in the true sense of the word and that is also well explained in the link i posted earlier in this thread. People go on these masturbatory rampages demeaning people because they use the word hacker , i say get a *****in life. Thanks lumpyporridge. I'm sorry if I didn't explain it right. I want to learn to program in Linux is what I ment, and I want to get more educated in security. I don't want to crack into systems. I want to help people by making useful programs and helping the open source world. I'm learning c++ right now and I want to learn how to make drivers for hardware, and I want to make a IM program that supports MSN, Yahoo, AIM, etc... with a webcam option.

Any tips on how I can do this.

Read lots and then read lots more, I would go over to http://sourceforge.net/ and find some messageing programs ,webcam programs ,drivers and download the source and start trying to figure out how they work. Sourceforge is where many great things have started and reside.
