more like working out a formula to fit every mountain road in the usa in mathematics.
I think this one will turn out to be to good to be true. But we can always hope that somthing like this will come out of left field and shock the computing world.

It sounds to good to be true i agree (101%), but we have to see the algorithm, who knows?
Wht if it actually worked??????
:)
A couple of years ago, here in the Netherlands there was also a guy who developed a superior compression algorithm, this meant that you can store enormous amounts of data on a single SIM card which is in your telephone (not the digicams). He stored the algorithm in a safe at some airport in the country. The guy himself is dead now and nobody nows where the algorithm has gone. Therefore I only believe such stories when I see results (wanna see it with my own eyes).
I dont know a whole lot about compression but common sense says no. It is like taking a 200 lb person and compressing them into .01 pounds of carbon, then remaking them. Hehe
-It is I, COMPRESSED ME!-
I know its a little too good to be true..but he showed me the demo. I asked him for his algorithim but he said that he is publisjhing it under GPL, so I 'll get to know it. Since computing infrastructure here in Pakistan is poor. Soon there will be a link over here. Lets hope that it is'nt a scam. The truth is hot to handle though. It would dfinitely revolutionise the computing world with such compression. The other day I was reading an article about DNA computing in a magzine that stated "a square inch of DNA storage medium is capable of storing 1 million gigabytes whereas on th magnetic disk a square inch can only hold 7 gigabytes if data". DNA computers are still in research field (started by Alderman). They have developed a DNA computer in Israel with few drops of water, some enzymes and fuel drops for chemical reaction with DNA strands. Now DNA computing is also a mind boggling thought but yes it does exist there. They have solved the travelling salesman problem, through dna computers. And one more intresting fact is that these DNA strands do not require hardwired boolean logic that an ordinary processor requies. It has built in intelligence. No need of hard wired boolean logic. Moreover it can perform 0.3 trillion operation in a second. Now you guys give it a thought and I ll try to put up the link or even an algorithim. Wish me luck and next time i'll try to put up a link next time. Have fun
Ommy
Ommy: I have worked with some DNA computer gurus in school, they are nowhere near as cool as you claim, the most advanced DNA computer cna play tic tac toe, if it has a modified set of rules and a human dose all of the data transfer (pouring one vial of stuff into another.) DNA computers have not solved the traveling sales man problem, nore are they anywhere near on par with our current computer tech. Hell the tinkertoy computer plays a better game of tic tac toe then the DNA computer. Oh and it dose ru nwith hardwired bolean logic, each testtube being a logic gate.....interesting...yes....impresive...no
Sure it's possible.. using a library based compression Al-Gore-Rhythm, we could compress 20GB of the letter "A" into a few characters! yay!
Oh, wait, I just got an email saying that BILL GATES will give me $100 if I forward it for his new email tracking program!
<freaking big bold blinking red letters> Um, where's the starter of this thread? I think we need a response on this, a link, or something. </<freaking big bold blinking red letters>
Ok then. Back to reality..
