this textbook isnt like a permanent one, its just one my SS teacher had us read for one period studying politics (although he said two years ago his students had this textbook) I dont recall the publisher, ill ask the teacher about the book, but i think the title was something like Understanding Politics For Kids or Understanding Politics or something like that. ill try to find out about it.
also today i was saying why i support Bush, and the teacher cut me short saying my reasons were not good enough... i said something like "i support Bush because he is improving the economy through his leadership, which falls under D.E.E. (delayed economic effect, which is a pretty new term) which basically means that almost all of the presidents actions on the economy wont really have effect for about two to four years. thats why at the beginning of his term the economy was dropping, because of Clintons actions. I also support him because I like that he is striking back against the terrorists who caused September 11." The teacher just said "those reasons aren't good enough" and called on someone else.
i think that might fall under being biased.
there is also one more thing that is interesting. our school district, CHCCS (Chapel Hill-Carrboro County Schools) has proposed and might accept a merger with Orange County Schools. The reason i am against this is because our town and school district is very rich, meanwhile Orange County is just average. They are trying to use us to get money, since the merger says that the school districts will share the money, which means that Orange County Schools will get more of Chapel Hill Schools money. this will result in us getting taxed higher (our taxes are already crazily high) to pay for a school district that we have no representation or association with whatsoever. and because i live in a nearly 95% liberal town there is very little my parents can do to fight against this.

Maybe your teacher was just looking for some more details and that is why she said your reasons were not good enough. Saying "I support Bush because he is improving the economy through his leadership" is not very detailed or does not have any backing. Its your thought, your opinion.

I like to give to charity on occasion so I look at the overhead percentage. Some Charities around here are 10-20 percent. Way to high, that means 20 cent's to my one dollar goes to pay someone. The red cross is a huge organization of global proportions, I don't have problems with someone running a company that big - making alot of money. But when the overall overhead get's too high then one has to look at moving his money elswhere or voting members of congress OUT when talking politics. I was for term limits personally. There are good and bad points with that but I was generally in favor of it. CEO compensation plans often include more than salary added to the total, like insurance etc.
If you are managing a charity with multibillion dollars in motion, I don't see how you could get a worthy CEO on 50 or 80k a year. The real only incintive sometimes for puting up with all the bull **** is often money.
Avoid those charities with high overhead percentages. Stop re-electing those who abuse power (I know I am dreaming) because some people have been in congress for decades. I have always thought teachers were underpaid, even as a child in school. You never heard them stop harping on it. But you know what, they make damn good money and have excellent benefits. I compared these with all sorts of jobs a few years ago when I was in one of those career changing moods, tired of playing the coporate dog meat game. When compared to factories, cops, firefighters, bankers, etc. They are right there. The fact that they are underpaid, around here anyway it total bull ****. :D
A 1st year teacher right out of college with a BA makes at the minumum 28k as a step 1 but they can be hired at higher steps. All the adds say "negotiable" In fact you can make up to 37k with a BA and a few years experience. Shoot man, I know 1st year IT grads barely making that busting ass. I have busted ass and learned all kinds of hightly technical stuff over the years, sleepless days etc. You know what? Given my time and experience a teacher will make - not quite what i make.... :p BUT that's why I like this job and made the choices I did, but they will make the local average, I said "average" for a dual income family. Don't ya hate the devil's advocate in me? One teacher making the same as a dual income family on average is not grossly underpaid. Maybe I live in a shcool district that has it's **** together? Who knows, never looked anywhere else.

RoadClosed: damm your IT friends are in the wrong area, I was at 45k right after leaving school, as for the CEO amount, I have no problem with them making some cash, my issues are wit hthe perks, things like all life expensies paid..hell look at the orbitz CEO his compinsation package if they fire him gose up if the company dose worse....its in his best interest to kill the company...that just ain't right.
Deimos326: So you have one teacher that is useing their class to spout there political agenda...that is in no way an inditement of the entire school system, perhaps you should work on toneaing down you overgeneralizations and notworry too much about the opinions of one person.

it isnt just this one teacher, im just using them as an example. my whole school is fanatic liberals, and i get flamed for anything i haveta say against it. you can ask psychojester if you dont believe me.

Maybe a more subtle approach in school?
Bballad, these guys aren't programers who can convert vb to perl. :D The guys are the result of some major shift in technology here and thanks also to MCI for lying to investors.
Sure the highly competent are paid well. I have another friend who is an absolute god at cisco who makes way more than me and he's half my age the friggin bastard! :p Your salary is pretty damn good for comming just out of college. I know switch techs in the phone company that don't make that much after 4 years.
/edit
It's hard to judge a CEO and salary. Mine makes a lot but the dude is the major investor who takes all the risk. He only makes a small amount but the corporation holds the assets so it a huge gray area.

The whole reason is that our ditrict is very good. Our grades are always in the high 4's (GPO) other systems around us are slipping into holes that they cannot get out of. I think that this merger will never go through seeing how the School board of administrtor are to weak to have any say in this merger. Any ways we would be in college (or in jail) by the time this happens (time set is in like 7 years)

Yes it is true. I have learned to turn away from thes political acts but soem times i want to lash out on the School Board. Seeing how they do nothing at all.

as i mentioned in another post that therepublican and i go to the same school. i 100% agree that the schools and teachers are making us grow up to be liberals. when r budget goes down the superintendent gets a raise. its a bunch of crap, the guy is already rich he just needs another mansion.
