I think you all got the Windows ones covered. But on linux, what about Kwrite? It highlights and arranges your code based on which form of coding you choose, on the fly man ON THE FLY! I just like how freaking organized it makes code. As for terminals, vi and pico all the way. Emacs can go suck a lemon.

nano, because I never saw the need to use key combinations just to tell the *editor* I wanted to *edit* a file. If I wanted to view it in read only mode I would use cat/more/less.
nano, the notepad.exe for nix.
Which brings me to another point. My 2nd favorite text editor is wine notepad.exe

I would go for any text editor that allows you to save the files by pressing CTRL+S and saves in text only format by default..does any1 know of one such thing?

nedit does that, at least on Red Hat 9 anyway.
