When I quit (1.5 years, then lied to myself that I could have a couple and not start smoking again  ), I started off with Nicoderm patches (they have a step program that steps you off of the patches, which I found appealing).
After a couple of days of walking around campus and my knees buckling, I talked to my doctor and he put me on Zyban. You have to be careful with the combination of the two because it can raise blood pressure (talk to the doctor about it); however, after I started using both at the same time, people could literally blow smoke in my face and I could have cared less :)
Anyway, worked like a charm, but it comes down to you wanting to quit. There were still times I had severe cravings and despite the medicine it still took me saying no (whereas when I have tried to quit lately, it has been more of a 'hell yea' *sigh* ).

I quit with the patch & I thought it worked great. It was pretty easy, the way they step down the nicotine amount. The only problem I ever had was if I went to sleep at night with the patch on I had some pretty bizarre dreams. But then again they were kinda interesting....

My solution to that was to put one on first thing in the morning (which is usually when I was wanting one the most anyway). By the time evening rolls around they aren't quite as strong and I slept better...but you are right, hell of a time going to sleep with them and VERY weird dreams while wearing them.
