Yep me ,nihil,titanmike falls in the same category ..Old xt,s 32kb add on memory card with monochrome screens..then 286.386,486 with the later 32pin sims, 1meg , best learning i ever experienced
Well here is the 2nd pc I owned (certainly not the first I used..that goes back before the Apple II..

The First I owned?... it was the kit built version...with the massive 16k ram.. the 32k was upgraded to 128k with twin 600k FDD..3.5".. .. I wanted the 2Mb HDD.. but it was just plain out of my budget $1500 at that time..
these were ROM based OS.. and you were anble to get many Apps in ROM..or you could flash your own.. very quick loading times.. got the "faster" fdd version.. and still prefered the rom version for the boot times.. so I doctored the FDD machine to a hybrid ROM/FDD.. worked a treat..
