I mentioned this problem to a friend and he said he seemed to recall that a batch of defective resin had gotten into the marketplace. This stuff is used in the manufacture of ICs, and apparently 13 IC makers were affected. Apparently these ICs were responsible for some hard drive failures as the stuff was prone to break down and cause short circuits.Quote:

Presumably the re-furbs would have had the controller card replaced?
If it is a bought in components problem, it makes you wonder which manufacturer is reliable?
