My favorite sports to watch would be hurling and rugby. Sailing would have to be my favorite sport to participate in.
Amateur sports I like best:
Boxing, Swimming, Gymnastics, Louge and Skiing (downhill and slalom)
Pro sports:
Uhm...hrm. I kinda keep track of how bad the Cowboys are losing, but hey. I used to like pro baseball too, but only because it gave me such good naps. Golf also has that effect. Semi-Pro boxing is good, but the rest of the sport is too dominated by Don King to truly enjoy it.
Stuff I like that should be a sport but isn't:
Texas Hold 'em Poker! (it's on ESPN, doesn't that count for something?)
9-Ball Pool (same thing!)
And, always, X-Games - especially street louge and giant-half-pipe bicycling (how do they get that big air?)
To participate in - well, I'm not much into sports anymore since my back injury, but I still lift weights when I can. I used to enjoy the occasional sandlot game of (American, not that other crap) football, baseball, and 2 on 2 volleyball.
HOCKEY ... by far the best team sport. Fastest and therefore by extension the hardest hitting. American football is boring compared to hockey.(The stand around for 5 minutes then 10 seconds of action and then stand around again... GTFOOH. Try thinking "on the fly" like in hockey) Baseball has gotta be the dumbest sport ever.
As far as my favorite sport to watch.. UFC or PRIDE (Japan). That's mixed martial arts or MMA. I love violence but Pride is by far more brutal. It's so brutal (head-stomps, fingers in eyes) that even I draw the line. But it's BY FAR THE BEST THING TO WATCH. Granted.. there are a lot of ex-wrestler in UFC but a good striker (Lidell) can ruin their whole game. Every other "fighting sport" is only a subset of allowed things to do. Boxing (hands only) Kick-boxing (hand and feet but no ground game-grapling) Wresting (no strikes) ...
I have to say Hockey. But I hear that the damn Canadians are trying to ruin it... ;)
I'm actually really excited about this upcoming season.
The rule changes should make things a bit more interesting too. :)
X-Games are second fav. I was never really into team sports. Extreme sports are where its at. I loved when the X-Games came to philly... fecking awesome. Now I'm stuck watching it on TV.
Other than that... does fragging count? :D I've gotten my heart rate up and even broken a sweat... lol
To watch:
American Football... I love the action and I'm kind of partial to the game since I played it up to the collegiate level.
To participate in:
Drag racing. Nothing has ever gotten my heart racing like that sport. Right now it is only in my spare time (which is too little) that I get to race but one of these days it will be a full time job for me :D
Sleep
1.) You can do it with your eyes closed

In response to Black Cluster's list:
No wonder Hugh Hefner's lived so long! :D
unhappy, don't get me started, your bringing up the classic debate, striker vs grappler. And let me tell you a good grappler can ruin a stikers game anyday as well. It all depends on the skill level of the fighter. But just remember, back in the day, UFC was all strikers, and then grapplers came along and beat the **** out of everyone and that's why there is mixed martial arts today. Just so you know I wrestled all through high school and junior high and I will argue to the death lol...
