What!!..... are you serious?. you think old Adolph just wanted to get chummy with his neighbours, you don't think that was about colonization, I suppose the people in Poland figured what the hey, old friend Adolph, come and play in our country, we don't want it.Quote:
No problem. But WWI??? a war of colinization, a war of agressor vs agressor/????
The WWI was started because of politics, an idiot decided to assasinate the Archduke of Austria Germany took offence, this sucked the rest of the world into the conflict, because France were too busy building the impregnable Maginot line (forgot to lock up when they left :D ) they didn't pay attention to what was brewing on the other side of the border.
WWI may not be as glamorous (if I can use that word on a day such as today) as the WWII, but millions of soldiers died (mostly because of twits, useless Generals and Admirals) as a result.
This war was like nothing ever before, no one knew how to fight it, it was a transition in tactics, they were throwing mounted cavalry against armoured tanks or machine gun positions, men were slaughtered like cattle, if anything was to be learned from this one, it was to minimize the casulaties for the next one, which they did as far as people in uniforms were concerned, however someone forgot to let the civilians know about it or the 6 Million jews the second time around.
The first War was the last time enemies would actually act chivalrous, sounds hard to believe, but it is true, I am sure you have heard the stories of the Trenches during Christmas when German troops and Allied tropps would exchange food and drink and even sing a long together and then on the next day take a time out, but the day after go at it again.
So I would actually if I had to choose which class of veterans to honour, pick the the ones from the WWI, these gentlemen had no idea what to expect, heck they thought they would be home by Christmas in the first year.
Oh and don't tell the Aussies that those that perished at Galipoli don't deserve some respect, what a tragic tale that is, thanks to Churchill and the idiots in the Admiralty.
Also don't tell all those Canuks that lost their lives at Vimy Ridge that they don't deserve your respect.
I didn't want to rant, but if you can't take time out to honour the dead from WWI then don't say anything at all.
Oh and just what colonial assets were Canadians, Australians,Americans,British, and a host of other Commonwealth countries were we protecting?
