As Heretic said, fer crying out loud, we got 33 years. A lot of folks are using 64-bit arch now. In 33 years, I'm hoping we are using a 1024-bit arch.
In 33 years, we are probably going to be dealing with date ranges and calulations that require much larger arches than this. How the heck else are we gonna git off'n this rock and get into hyperspace?
Just my tuppence.
;)
BTW, nihil, you and I will likely still be around as punishment for our mis-spent youths.
Or something like that.

Well thankfully, I won't be around. In 2038 I would be like 91 years old, and i really don't wish to live that long(unless I could regain my youth that is).
EDIT> Any one know where the fountian of youth is....speak up.

acctualy, the next Y2K will occur exactly 8589934592 seconds from 00:00:00 01/01/1970 :)
Thats when Unix time overflows its 4 byte allocated space. Should be fun...if I was alive...it'll be like 2250 :s Unix time might be a tad bit dated by then....

In 33 years we might not even have computers...someone might invent something better...33 years ago calculators weren't even allowed in school...the advances that occur over every 25 year span means anything is possible...in 33 years the likelihood that computers will even remotely resemble what we use now is very unlikely.
I remember when we went to moon...Woodstock...I remember when Nixon got elected...my transistor radio was larger than a boom box...:D ...at the rate we're going...anything is possible!
Who back then would have thought we'd have microwave ovens, etc...back then it was science fiction, now science fact...what is science fiction today will become science fact tomorrow.
I'm looking forward to the demise of computers and the rise of the next great thing.
Eg ;)
