though nixon may have proved that executive orders can be struck down (so have other presidents, including our more beloved presidents like clinton and truman), many presidents have proven that they can enact orders clearly unnconstitutional and get away with them... dating back to lincoln suspending habeas corpeus during the civil war, fdr and the infamous executive order that created the famed internment camps, and all the way up to clinton's famous river initiative that robbed states of their constitutionally given powers. which brings me to my point, whether or not his order is unconstitutional is for the courts to decide. with the current court (4 right wingers, 4 left wingers, and 1 swing on her way out) and with a war going on, i doubt there will be anything stopping him. having presidents wipe their asses with the constitution is nothing new and i don't see anyone stopping bush.

Ok, here we go -

I have never once in my entire 38 years been ashamed of my Government. I proudly served it, protecting and defending our Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and domestic. In virtually every instance, I still do...

HOWEVER...

When a Government oversteps its bounds with the citizenry in taking upon itself the right to deprive that citizenry of its civil rights, there's a huge issue and it's time for a change.

Yes, there is NO RIGHT TO PRIVACY written anywhere in our constitution. You're absolutely right. There's also no right to wiretap anywhere in there either.

If my President, Congress, and Supreme Court all get together one day and decide it's their right to tap my phone, I reserve the right to shoot the poor technician tapping it squarely between his beady little eyes when I catch him. I will exercise that right.

In the meantime, I still possess the right to vote. I plan on exercising that right, on all levels of government in all branches come election day. We now dawn on 2006. This means 2 more years of our bright boy and we can move on in the executive branch. It means that all next year there will be congressional and senatorial elections and they can get changed up too. I know a LOT of pissed off Texans who agree with this and plan on acting.

When your government says 'its for your own good' it's time to change it. It's not within their right or power to decide what's good for us, it's our right and power to decide what's good for them - and what's good is change.

How do you catch terrorists on US soil then? Easy. Shoot every other Arab. Send the rest home to warn the others. Let them sue if they want, and don't pay the damages. For a several years now 'racial profiling' has been a hot topic among law enforcement and in the news. The fact of the matter is, if a bunch of arabs bombed us, would you really check the chinese guy in line at the airport? Sorry, that doesn't fly. By all means, racially profile! Leave the rest of us alone.

Yall do realize that whether you know it or not they were doing wiretapping without autorization LONG before Bush came into office.... It's not like this is something new, they just didn't admit it before or have someone leak it.... Im 100% sure Clinton did it he was just to much of a pussy to stick to it ( IMHO) and also believe it or not they werent spying on everyday honest Americans as the media has lead us to believe. why you ask? because it would take to much time and resources! They were only wiretapping "Suspecious Person(s)" and im pretty sure everyday honest joes dont fall under that catorgory so, my shooting down the Patriot Act and stuff like it you are taking away the tools we need to protect our country.

What more tools do you need......if the Immigration people did there jobs right, most of these undesireables would not get into the country, then you wouldn't have to worry about wiretapping the honest folk...?

When a person from a foreign country wants to immigrate to the US they first have to seek out the paperwork from the nearest US consulate or Embassy, this is where background checks are supposedly done to ensure that the person applying for entry to the US is say....NOT OSAMA.....and deny or shoot the bugger on the spot (tongue in cheek), we have the same problems at the Canadian conuslates/embassies, stupid no neck clerks who could care less about the paperwork, and is instead more worried about what they are going to do that night.......or worse, how much they can expect to make by falsifying the documentation for these perps so they can (il)legaly enter the country of choice....

That is where you stop the majority of known undesireables, but both of our countries immigration policies leave something to be desired, as we are both guilty of picking and choosing the wrong people to enter our countries (Nazi War Criminals/German Rocket Scientists, etc), I cried a few years ago when I read that living in Toronto was the wife and children all living off of welfare of a Somalian Warlord, probably the same guy responsible for the 'Blackhawk Down" incident, that is why I am such a huuuuge cynic when it comes to our politicians of every stripe.

Notwithstanding I am with |3lack|ce, when it comes time for some twit to reconfigure my phone lines, he/she had better be wearing a body armour suit....and I also agree that what the media so naively call racial profiling is a fact of life......if you don't like being stopped by the police because you happen to be an arab, then my son you have the "right" to move back to the paradise you left, or better yet, go to your councilperson (pc) and lodge a complaint, at least in both these countries (US/Canada) you won't be shot for complaining....we'll just bore you to death with the "Red Tape" :D

The Texan: What they did was with the nsa. That allowed wire tapping as long as you got a retroactive warrent within 72 hours of the tap. The court that issued these had something liek a 90% approvl rate for the warrents. the neocons coudn't be bothered fallowing this rather easy procedure.

I think the problem is much more foundational than we realize once the politics of it all is removed.

That article makes two very valid points... and I would agree with both, if I have nothing to hide then by all means eavesdrop, or open my mail or call the people I went to grade school with to get their opinion on me, like......when you knew this individual, what was he like (may go back 25 plus years)(and the person they pick is the one you used to beat up), well as far as I can remember sir, he always did kinda stick out some, like when we would go off and kill frogs, he would stay back mumbling stuff, we paid him no mind sir, just kinda figured him for a "pansy" like.... you know, or that other time we was out in the woods drinking some shine, and planning some stuff , well he wouldn't have anything to do with it, no siree, pretty weird fella if you ask me...might be some kinda commie pinko type (the name McCarthy ring a bell).Oh if you think this scenario is a bit ludicrous, then you don't know how far intelligence agencies will go back in time to find all of your skeletons, if they get a sniff of something then watch out, and I would believe that all people who are ready to be placed in a sensitive post will have extensive background checks done on them, supposedly.....so would you be willing to have a couple of dark suits go back to your old neighbourhoods and snoop about??? sounds pretty conspiracy theory type whacko stuff, but hey, you guys have the CIA,FBI,ATF,DEA,NSA am I missing anyone, oh yeah then there's Military Intelligence (I know "oxymoron"):p

It doesn't take much for any Government to abuse power "absolute power corrupts absolutley", my points were, at what point in this end game do you realise that all of the rules have changed? How do you reverse the changes, it is like taxes, the politicians have received these for so long it would take a moses to make them depart from them....

Personaly though I tend to be a patriot, Im for small goverment, personal freedom, fiscal responsability, I beleive in what our founding fatthers stood for...this is why I will never vote republican.

Great men said "give me liberlty or give me death" and "Those that would scarifice freedom for security derserve neither.". These where the statments of our foundign fatehrs, that is what the country was built on.
