If you have high speed.... You don't configure anything, it grabs that out of the box. But dial up is another story.
Out of the box it should use DHCP to grab your IP and the things you need to connect. You might want to go on Open SUSE and read some docs. But as said, if you've got high speed, you don't need to confgure. If it can find the NIC it just grabs the stuff by itself.
well, i dun hav a high speed connection, its just 256 kpbs!!
The modem is connected to my Lan Card and for my connection to work, i just entered the details I told before, in Windows XP!!
Suse didnt took any details by itself, coz if it had done that, I wud hav written this thread, using Suse not XP!!Quote:

Hmmm, never came across that peice of hardware before.... Damn man lol, you almost stumped me. You may have some better luck doing either or both of these:
1. Sign up for some SUSE email lists. If you need the links let me know and I'll find them for you, the guys and girls on there are decent people and are good with hardware problems and should have you going in no time. For the most part if someone has seen it they'll work with you and help it work.
2. You can google SUSE+ThatHardware and read some results to see if anyone has used that before.
The card you're talking about should show up in the hardware tab of YAST and you could try hitting the configure button to see if you can enter the info you need in there. I think the first and second option would give you the best reults though because that way you have a web page or email you can save for future reference.

I think I made a bit of mess here. The modem I was talking abt is connected to my ethernet card(lan card). Its name is something like RTL 8139..(i dun remember the exact thing!!) And the web distributor thing is nothing to worry abt!!Quote:

If I am able to enter the IP details, DNS, Subnet Mask, Defualt gateway, the modem works by itself!!
Actually, I initially tried that thing only, as its similar to Red Hat 9. And the YAST did recognised my ethernet card. However, when I tried to configure and enter the above details, it didnt worked out!!

There you are. Just select a few lists (SUSE-Linux-E for example) and then enter the addy you want them sent to and hit subscribe. You'll get a confirmation email, reply to that and you're on. Then you can just send your questions.
Be wanred some of the lists are HEAVY traffic because of the number of posts to them so you may want to use a Gmail account or something.

I should of said this in the first place. ALWAYS check your hardware before you start fooling around. I guess now it isn't so hard. But, when I first started playing with linux it was a pain in the ass to get half my crap running.
And don't forget www.google.com/linux sucka.
The easiest way to set settings in Suse is just to open Yast and there is an icon for hardware. Select your nic card and make changes as you do in XP. If ever in doubt open Yast and look around. SuSe seems to set everything to DHCP which doesn't work for me either so I always have to tinker with the net settings.
Some broadband systems are BAD at setting up DHCP. They assign the first PC the same address as it's own gateway which doesn't work. Meaning they hand out duplicate addresses. Or your modem is not set up for DHCP which was common in the first gen system. As for dial up I have never seen one that wasn't DHCP since like 1994. But that doesn't matter because your modem is broadband since hit hooks up to your nic. With Yast you can set up the same settings you have in XP.
Have fun. Remember Yast is like control panel in XP but more powerful.
I tried to post a screen shot but AO just displays the link. I even tried reducing the image so I don't know what's up.
But the NIC settings or actually in "Network Settings" on the Yest control panel. Not hardware. Then you have to select your device which would be "Nic Card"
So I'll attach it. This is the severly reduced image so if you cant read it holler I'll post a better one.

Now, my internet is also workin from SUSE, and I want to say that I'm likin it very much!!!!!
For the next step, plz tell me where can I find some gud n fundoo softwares for Linux.
Do tell abt the softwares, games!!
Also, one more doubt, according to me, SUSE 10.0 is able to work on rpm as well as deb packages, am i right on this??

For software, check for anything in RPM format. As for your other question, yea SUSE can work with .deb packages and even tgz files. Never installed from either but they are there for you to try. You'll want to get used to YAST as much as you can for sure. And if you want you can click on install / remove software and check what you have installed and see what else is on the CDs you could install, and of course searching RPMs. Just make sure you don't UN-INSTALL anything.
