Some of us use Ebay as our "yard sale" too. I've sold "used" stuff on Ebay that needed a wider audience to sell. Covered my "handling" costs and a little over.
The "networking" does happen. I work for a maintenance department. We have electricians, plumbers, mechanics and electronic techs to name a few trades. We can be quite popular on weekends. People are appreciative. Sometimes its a swap a "job" for "job", other times there's remuneration.
Somehow I'd expect the governments to try to squash the common person. I've got a high rolling sister who flies a lot for her job. With her frequent flier miles she takes her family on great vacations and none of that gets taxed. My employer insists they keep the perks on company travel.

The "underground Economy" as we see it here in Canada is huuuuge, and it's mostly in the developer's market (housing), it is costing taxpayers (like me) a lot of mooolah.....they figure it's approx a billion in lost taxes each year.....that's a lot of expensive surgeries or hospital equipment that we are always in need of....and it's so easy to do here, I can pave your driveway for x amount but when you do up the receipt place y amount, or under the table wages.....:fpissed:
