I think that the issue with this thread is that you need to keep an eye on service packs and updates and maintain slipstreamed versions, otherwise you will have problems applying them in the right order?

SP2 was released August 25th. 2004
If by "repaired" you meant reinstalled then I am not surprised that you had problems because you would have lost all your cumulative patches/updates. In particular you would have lost SP2 that you need for IE7.

I am not sure what stage you are at at the moment but you might try this:Quote:

1. Load your XP (I think that it is already there and is OK?)
2. Download SP2
3. Apply SP2
4. Re-install IE7 (if it hasn't started working)
5. Apply the MS updates since SP2
Be careful not to go on the internet without a firewall. I would recommend going to the MS site and looking for the administrators' update packs rather than waiting ages for the update program to do them one at a time.
You will probably need to get the latest version of the Windows Updater program.

On usenet I have seen flamewars of several hundreds of posts that went on for weeks at a time. They might recur less than a year later. They don't seem nearly impassioned now a days as they used to be but they recur sometimes just for old times' sakes I think.Quote:
