Snipering

I think you have a point, somac. I don't think he's shooting necessarily to kill. I think he's just shooting people. If he scores a kill, so much the better (in his eyes), but I'm thinking more and more that he's doing it for the power. He's got a couple of hundred square mile area and millions of people scared. One or two men have millions looking over their shoulders. It's a trip for him and he loves it. Shooting in the back, front, side doesn't matter. He chooses a target at random and takes his shot. Man, woman, or child doesn't matter to him. They're just targets. And, the scary thing is, with no random pattern, he's going to be hard to find unless he makes a major mistake.

I'm hoping he'll get more arrogant than he already is and make that mistake, and the sooner the better.

Just to get back on the Al-Quaida comments. I really do not believe this is an Islamic terrorist, because as stated they would never state themselves as being God because of their high respect for God Himself.

Also, guys these are people who are using weapons such as AK-47, handguns, and gernades. They're building homemade bombs! Please, these people won't get their hands on a highly efficiant sniper-rifle.. and even if they did, they wouldn't prowl through the streets killing people. Remember, they love mass destruction. They smashed into the world trade center to kill thousands, not ten people, but thousands!

In my perspective, if an Al-Quaida member got his hands on a sniper rifle he'd go boom, ****, boom, ****, boom, ****, boom.. reload, boom.. you get the point.

I agree, silentstalker. If this were Al Quaida, besides the reference to God, there wouldn't be just one shot. They'd spray the whole area and get as many as they could before bugging out. If this character is using a semi auto, he might eventually start trying for multiple kills. The low recoil of the .223 would allow him to line up on a second target pretty quickly, especially if he chooses them ahead of time. Even hearing the shot, most people aren't conditioned to react instantly to the sound.

I'd doubt he/she would do that. It just makes he/she more likely to get caught.

I think we will see a series from one location in the future... Whoever this is has got big brass ones IMO... The last killing there was a cop a few yards away... I think he will eventually feel that he can pop off more than one shot especially if things keep going the way they are... He will have to tell the cops "lthere is nothing you can do to stop me" and that will be his down fall....

its completely mental - i heard one report which said they are having problems catching him cause they can't trace where he bought the rifle...apparantly the gun laws state that all companies manufacturing weapons must provide a sample bullet fired from every gun so that other bullets can then be matched with the gun and then traced back to where the weapon was sold but in america it only applies to handguns and as he is using a high velocity rifle they don't have any samples to compare the bullets to - sounds really messed up to me :(

..And I'd have to agree with tty0 that he probably Won't be caught unless he is ratted out. As for ex-miliatary, more than likely he is, otherwise a normal civilian would have probably been caught. I think it was said the guy can hit from around 1 1/2 football yeards and nail them? He must obviously have some good training or someone taught him very well.

He may be ex military. Millions of men and women are. I don't think so, but I've been wrong plenty of times before on many subjects. Hitting at 150 yds, as has been said before, is no big deal. Almost anybody can be taught that in no time, or teach themselves for that matter. Maybe his rifle is scoped. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but a good rule of thumb is 3 inches high at 100 meters will be about zero at 175 to 200 with the .223. How close am I 4midget?

Hrm, 1 cm of movement in any direction from 150 Yds away is about 10 feet when it reaches the target, So he is pretty precise

Pretty close Chuck56... My Remigton 700 is zeroed at 300 meters... I shoot 3 inches high at 100 meters... Depending on who manufactured the scope asuming he is using one I would guess that he prbably zeroed at 100 yards and just knows his weapon very well... My .22 is zeroed at 50 meters and at 100 I shoot about 1/34 inches low if I hold on center mass...

Actually 1 cm will translate to about 10.5 inches at 200 meters... (SOURCE: Sniper Training and Employment)

I agree with you man he is mental... I am pretty well up on gun laws in the US and I don't recall the one you are refering to... I do remember that the Brady Center For Handgun Violence wanted something like that put into law but I don't remember it ever passing... It is very doubtful that this guy got his weapon from a gun shop... If he did not steal it I would guess that he baught it from an individual or had it baught for him by someone else...

I think that he maybe someone who wanted to be in the military but was either kicked out for one reason or another or he couldn't make it through basic and got the boot... I will be very suprised if it turns out that he spent any amount of time in the military at all...

I disagree with you on this one tty0... Multiple races and ages have been targeted... What could a 13 year old kid going to school have done to this guy? In his twisted a55 mind they maybe connected in some way... They all had purple hair or some otehr crap like that... But I don't think they will find any connection other then they were all targets of this sick SOB...

Just a note about people who are not accepted to the military. Eric Harris, one of the Columbine shooters tried to enlist, but was turned down because he was on the antidepressant Luvox. After that he quit taking his medication, a few days later he and Klebold went into CHS on the shooting spree. I know its not a major revalation, but it is an interesting connection.

i think the sniper is a hunter and he has very little milltary time or he is a survivalist gone mad any one who would shoot at civillans has to be mad and has no value for human life

I think that whomever decided to be "God" and shoot all the unconnected (as of now) innocent people should not only be punished severely, but put out of the country as well. This peson or these people are forcing the communities in Maryland to hide and be afraid because they are too scared to come out of hiding and admit their guilt. Perhaps if one of their close family members or friends was injured or killed in the same manner, they'd understand what the people who've witnessed the killings or are related/friends with the victims are going through. Having to worry that you're oing to be snipered is a terrible thing and if that's what our "beloved" country is coming to, then I want out.

Havent heard that newz but maybe their are terrorist group just want to spread terror in the city or just a hire killer pay by other peoson to do that and make some confusion on the terrrorst act or murder ive only think that well i hop ethat they'll caught those person we sure dont want to walk on our street if that thing happen and maybe thay can get help from other civilians if they cooperate

I haven't bothered with the news today. Guess the nut took the holiday off or is lying low for a while. Another thought that occurred to me. People are scared and cautious in that area now.

If I were him, I'd disappear for a while. I'd sit back and let everybody forget and think I'm gone. Maybe I'd spend the time doing something constructive, like painting the truck or van. When things are relatively back to normal, hit again.

OK i haven't had time to read the whole thread but I can shoot a Lee Enfield .303 at least 1000 yds and keep it within 3" under semi rapid fire. I have to admit this is on a range, but to put things into perspective you can shoot a .22 150 yds and kill someone.

kosta, I think they already announced that they are going after the death penalty when/if they catch 'em. There was another shooting about 2 hours ago in Falls Church, VA. They have not yet announced whether or not they feel it is related. A woman was apparently loading something into the back of her vehicle when she was shot outside of Home Depot. There was a cream-colored Astro Van reported leaving the area, and now they are blocking off roads in efforts to eliminate possibilities. There aren't many details as they just made an announcement, and it's still pretty fresh. I hope they catch this bastard. Here is link to the story .

They came out this afternoon and said that there was no conection between the shootings and either the van they "found" or the guy they arrested in Baltimore... He/they are still out there and I get the feeling there will be more people killed before they even get close to them...

The cops have their guns up their asses and there not doing anything at all!

They think the guy may be using an AK-74 from what witnesses at the last shooting said... NBC and FOX both reported that the police aren't saying very much "officially" but "sources" said they may have caught the guy on video tape in the parking garage... they may be closer then they are letting on tty0... The media have a way of totally screwing things up... I am sure that this guy watches the news just like everyone else after he makes his kill... THat is part of what gets him off IMO... If the police tell the media everything they know then Mr. Killer knows everything too and can change the way he works to keep them guessing... The one thing the cops have going for them is that this guy is still doing things the same way...

I fail to understand how involving the military is gonna help. I mean doesn't the FBI have their UAVs???If they dont, then they should!!! This sets a very bad precedent......

I agree with you that violating Posse Comotatas (SP) is indeed a very bad idea... But federal law enforcement has been doing it for years...They got military aircraft and vehicles for Waco by saying they were brewing up crystal meth and using assets from JTF6... A group made up of Spec Ops and Delta operators that supply training and assets to law enforcement as long as drugs are involved... I don't see how they are going to get around the law this time... Comming soon the federalization of local police departments.... Lets hope not...

I can see how it will help though... The Predator UAV can stay up for 24 hours without refueling and with the sensor package they have they can "see" the shot and follow the shooter and bring police in on the guy...

I can understand them bringing in as many assets as they can to try to get these characters. Considering that roughly 8 or 9 million people are basically living in fear, they gotta use everything they can. I suggest that if this guy was hitting around, say Hastings Nebraska, you wouldn't see the same reaction by law enforcement.

Thats true, you wouldn't be seeing the same reaction. Do you know why? Simply because politicians dont live in Nebraska(well, not the big-name ones).

Couldn't the aftermath of the snipering lead to a hasty decision to put cameras in to moniter the public? Also, has anyone else noticed many of the victims were in areas with the same names as Civil War battles? TV is encouraging him. I heard that a reporter said something about children as targets and then that kid was hit shortly after. Then they said he hit that FBI person. If he knows that he will be really happy. Just too much info is being released.

It is the same name as civil war battles because most of the battles were fought here.

The majority of the cities here are named after civil war battles. I dont think it is connected.

I'm not sure if they were invited in prior to the shooter going into Virginia or not. Once somebody asks for their assistance, you can't get rid of them.

However, as seen on this Coast Guard site , "Posse Comitatus clarifications emphasize supportive and technical assistance (e.g., use of facilities, vessels, aircraft, intelligence, tech aid, surveillance, etc.) while generally prohibiting direct participation of DoD personnel in law enforcement (e.g., search, seizure, and arrests). "
It seems to me then that civilian law enforcement is using military aircraft to simply perform "surveilance," and, therefore, are not violating any federal laws. Military personnel, to the best of my knowledge, are not actively involved in ground searches for the sniper(s).
Bringing the military into this matter is, truly, a political move. Is the sniper was not killing people in Washington's backyard, there would probablt be less publicity, and less political pressure to bring the military in to help.
However, I think that using the military, in this situation, makes sense. I do not see how capturing one/two serial killers, who are terrorizing communities, will hurt my civil rights. It is not as if the military is being used against innocent law-abiding citizens, and it this is not a case of a questionable, vague, controversial law being enforced. The man (or men) who are commiting these crimes are mudering people seemingly at random. Premeditated murder has been against the law since the beginging of law. These men should be captured using all reasonable means necessary, and they should be tried in a court of law, just as the Constitution dictates.

I may be way off, but it is good to have a conspiracy theory every now and again !

What are the chances of this sniper being CIA meant as a diversion from the government getting the OK for war with iraq ?
Certainly on the news it seems that iraq is taking a back seat behind this sniper ?

yea, the FBI is involved because of the multi-state nature, but the military is involved because they think they can get away with it.

Geepod, I have thought about it being the government. I think the govt. would be behind it to get consent for more public monitoring, not to get Iraq out. I'm suprised they haven't tried to blame the snipering on Iraq. :) However the anthrax attacks from last year probably were the govt. All the samples were sent to Democratic leaders and liberal news stations. Then it got out of hand.

Owen, I can see cities and other larger metro areas trying to institute video monitoring, like is in some areas of the UK. As I understand, or maybe I was dreaming it, it's already been discussed in some places.

Seems as though, too, there was a poll taken and over 60% of Americans would not object. I'm sure this poll focused on the East and Left Coast areas. In my rural area, I guess those monitors would be useful for warning against coyote attacks against the herds of sheep.

I was watchin CNN today and it really pissed me off. They were going on and on about how video games may have caused this. showing clips of counterstrike and other first person shooters. it does not seem right to me. I have been playing thoes games since the original doom and let me tell you i have never wanted to go out and shoot people. I just could not belive that they lumped this in to a catagory with colombine. Speaking of witch. you all should see michale moores new movie 'bowling for colombine". it came out a week ago in NY and LA got great reveiws at canns.

MrBert, you should have seen it yesterday when they had some idiot on as a guest who basically said "this could have links to the SNIPER GAME doom, which has a code 'i am god' that lets you go arround and kill people but not die."

not only is doom about as far from a sniper game as you can get(i mean it didnt even have freaking mouse look!), but the cheat code for god mode was "iddqd", not "i am god".

i swear, i dont know how these people get on these shows!
