Depends on how you define generous, and how you look at it, I guess...Quote:
America is the most generous country in the world, and it tries to help whenever it can.
Being the richest country in the world, it shouldn't be a surprise that the US is the most generous. In raw dollars, the US is again (after more than a decade of Japan being #1... compare the size/population of Japan to that of the US, and draw your conclusions) number 1.
If you look at the GDP, though, the US ranks last among the wealthy countries (only 0.1 % of the GDP goes to foreign aid).
Here are some figures (for 2001):
- US: $10.9 billion - 0.1% of GDP - population: 290 million - $37 per person
- Japan: $9.7 billion - 0.26%: of GDP - population: 127 million - $76 per person
- Germany: $4.9 billion - 0.22% of GDP - population: 82 million - $59 per person
- The Netherlands: $3.2 billion - 0.73% of GDP - population: 16 million - $200 per person
Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Luxembourg give even more of their GDP to foreign aid...
Soooo... if you look at the raw dollars, the US does give the most. If you look at the percentage of the GDP, the Scandinavian countries give the most. If you look at the amount/population, the Netherlands give the most.
There you go :)
