That is why they were such a problem to the alliance................there was no infrastructure to attack.

Look at it this way, the taliban was basically created by the U.S. We left the country in ruins and just up and left, so the taliban said, "hey, we'll help you out" and so they did. They improved the country quite a bit from the state we left it in, and the people were happy, but then the restrictions got tighter, and it wasn't fun for the people anymore.

Northan Alliance that came into power compromised of three ethnic groups - Tajiks, Uzbeks and the Hazaras those were in minority ( all these ethnic grups formed roughly 20 % of the population ) in Afganistan they ruled Afghanistan from 1992 to 1996......untill Taliban Drove them away .Quote:

The basic problem was they didn't represent the majority population of the country.............and their closeness to India and Russia..
Due to the stratigic importance of the region Pakistan and USA wanted to insatall a Freindly Government there so they backed Taliban.....this organisation has a instrensting History.
Mulla Omar formar Mujjahidin............Used to run a Madarsa (Religious School).......he started gathering his students ( thus the name Taliban meaning Students) and formed taliban to outst the the so called non Islamic Government in Afagnistan............he was a pakistani mind you and all his followrs too............4 trucka full of his Students drove out from his home town in a mission to outst the Northan alliance backed by Pakistan Army and CIA.......... 15,000 or so notthen Alliance Solders were no match for them..........it was vary late when India and Russia Woke up to the occasion and actually started backing the northan alliance they had a big hand in keeping the alliance alive for so long...........but they woke up just too late.........i call it a fallout of the Cold War
Another reason for their rapid prograss was people Support .........they promised a Pure Islamic Goverment ruled of sharia ( the Islamic Law).........northan alliance was in minority( population wise) and didn't form a Islamic State.............Islam has always looked to dominate state..
Second the infighiting between the Northan alliance.......... people were fed up of that everyday fighiting and wanted Peace..........a powerful mallitia seemed to provide that .....so they welcomed them with open arms.
Some people has a view that this fight against terrorism started on 9/11............my view is that it was just another turning point...........earlier they were backed by US against what US thought were enemes .........more that 50,000 people have been killed in Kashmir alone ( 18,000 civilians excluding war ..peace time )..........that time it was called regional conflict.........though these very organisations were active there...........My view is it was now when US came to knew what terrorism is .

The US give $23.76 per capita per year on foreign aid. Luxembourg gives $352.30 per capita per year... There are at least 20 other countries who give "more" than the US (a LOT more).
Also, if you look at the absolute figures, Japan is giving more (according to the CIA factbook): $9.1 billion Vs. $6.9 billion.

I don't think the poorest Countries are getting benifits of this............The problem i think is Agricultur sector is too protected in Rich countries..........and Poor countries can't compete in manufacturing sector .
Now to me thats the whole problem thats keeping the poor countries poor and even pushing them even backwards............relying heavily on Exporting RAW material..........And even if a country's export figures increase and the country shows good growth figures it does not necessarily mean that the poorest groups in society increase their living standards...
Uhm...........it works both ways ..........it gives the Richer countries more execc to natureal resources at a lower price........import raw material at a lower price and then export back the finished product....... like US is getting RAW oil at lower pricesQuote:

Aye, Japan wanted more fishing rights in south african waters ........ This is a one way trade, between south africa nd the US. USA lowers Tarrifs, South Africa cannot, nor can any of the SADC countries. It is the law here, we can give favourable status, but we cannot give lower tarrifs..... on most commodities.......so i cannot agree with your conclusion about leverage, sadc's biggest trading block is the european union and the far east, not the us, it comes in at 4th....... also, please remember, the oil you speak of may be Nigerian land, but it is explored for, drilled and "Marketed", by Shell ........ not the Nigerian Government, They get their monies from the Taxes, not the actual Oil sales if i explain it like that ..... South Africa nad most the other countries no longer have the raw and fossil fuels we once had, our economies are changing from mining to commodities ....... look at our biggest conglomerate, anglo-american, it's a diamond miner that has now gone into luxury goods ...... Because of South Africa's Non-Aligned movement Status, we cannot enter into anti-competive agreements across the board, even if it is the USA.Quote:

I do not dispute your facts as per above, I do however the conclusion, perhaps it could be seen as a marketing tool, i mean here a chevie lumina costs almost as much as an bmw m3 .... i'll take the m3 ....... chick magnet to the max ...........!!!!!! sorry, nerd, pocket protector the whole nine yards, zero to hero with flashy car !!!!!!!!!!!!! (LOL) I wish .......... anyways, the us is a good friend to the free market economy of africa, as our markets mature, i believe trade possibilities will increase, but however, i believe that in the vacuum that exists now, large possiblities for anti-american seeds will be sown. it took african countries a long time, even now, to figure out why bill clinton bombed the "pharmaceutical factory". also, ex-british pm's son, mark thatcher was arrested and released on bail in south africa. thought of being a funder for a coup in equitorial guinea, oil rich nation. hell, not just anti-us but anti-west propoganda .......will grow.
