Yes, I think that basically the "magic" has gone out of the internet. I see the same pattern on other sites with a similar orientation as well.
Back when this site was in its infancy a 28.8 dial-up connection was cool. E-mail was in its infancy, viruses were abundant.............. hell, I can even remember when people competed to see who could write the smallest boot sector virus..............
Today, even malware is commercial, as cybercrime has become the predominant theme; and I take the view that just because something is criminal it doesn't mean that it is not commercial.
For example, I read a lot of computer security news and newsletters. In the past few years I have rarely seen anything "new" like I used to? Its all "vulnerabilities" in this, that, or the other or variations on a theme. When most of what you read concerns products you have never seen from suppliers you have never even heard of............ you can't find much material for a discussion site like this?
The "old days" are not coming back.............the World and the internet have moved on.
I've noticed a drop in Internet messageboard participation, regardless of the particular subject. I'm not speaking of ours alone, but in general. The only exception seems to be message boards associated with a sporting team. People will always want to talk and yell about their favorite sports teams.
Seems that social networking sites are now the hot item, somewhat supplanting the message board.
I'd 2nd that. There will always be a base discussion option but with Blackberries and the variety of different social networking sites as options to communicate (often at a faster pace), the "olde fashioned" forum is not as active as it once was. (I've noticed this on a few forums were posting levels have plateau'd).Quote:

I've noticed a few worthwhile discussions take place, but what i'm still scratching my head about is why none of these ideas have been taken from the drawing board and actually done.
The numbers here are slowly dwindling, fine we have our times were we have a regular flood of members participating, and we have those dry periods.
Well we are in one of those dry periods by the looks of things, so why not gather up the ideas and do something about it.
cheers

One thing that may help, the upgrade process has begun. Won't be too long before this forum is upgraded.
I've been gone for three months and this thread is right where I left it. :)
Were you expecting it to move to another city or something?? :DQuote:

It could be a fun game, kind of like hide and go seek, only the thread will get hidden and you need to find it. :drink:
anyhow what sort of upgrades should we expect to see? Timeline on when this is going to be happening?
details Joe we need details. :D
I don't know, or care, as long as I get my Blue dot. The APs were green, now they're... well green. Damn it Joe would it REALLY be that much of a "hack" to let me have a neon blue dot?
It IS October first after all ;) I know, I checked and waited for midnight to do something special to kick off the new time of year I love most :)

maybe they have been spending all this time doing all sorts of research and test's etc and perfecting the perfect neon blue .gif.
both elegant but aerodynamical perfect.
Gawd i need some coffee ::coffee:: .
Lol right. And as for Coffee I haven't had any. I got up and realized I slept in hardcore. WAYYYYYY later than I have lately. The last two weeks were back breaking labor for me... Got rid of all the carpet, hard wood floors and tiles are in now. With my back it was STUPID to even try lifting all this crap. Anyway it's finally done so I'm sore as crap. As for Coffee, I finally slept in today and went to the store and got Red Bull Cola :)
It's actually good. The weird part, is it tastes kind of like oldschool Jolt Cola from back in the day, but mixed with Jaegermeister.
I was like WTF it tastes like Jaeger and when you burp it tastes like oldschool Jolt. And even more weird is the Coca Leaf extract it says it has in it.... I was like hmm, that's odd.
Very good taste though. Sort of a Jaeger flavor at first, then once it's in, and you swallow, a Jolt almost flavor. I give it a thumbs up though.
They have those down at the local supermarket. Was going to grab a few but i seem to forget when i'm there to grab some.
Will go make a special trip down latter and grab some. :)
from what you've said they sound pretty decent.
I never expected it to still be on the front page when I logged on.Quote:

In those old days, everyone would talk to just about everyone and as soon as you said the slightest thing to upset anyone you were attacked not only on the principals you were making, but also on your character. I should know, I was great at doing it. That works when there is a person running the site, but most companies can't and won't allow that to happen.
I think AO has altered just the way most websites have. I can not even begin to express how many times I have to explain what IRC is, or other precursors to aim.
The world has changed and therefore everything within it must as well. We live to learn, and learn so we can live. I guess that is what is happening here.
Though, couldn't you guys use GCC more?
Anyway, everyone be loved, be happy and enjoy life.

Hi whizkid - I recognize your face. :)
Gore, Doppy's nowhere near St. Augustine, I am. And we go to the lighthouse every summer and I've never seen anything remotely supernatural. Except a couple of years ago some freak climbed it in a tiger suit. That was super-something. Haha.
MsMittens, what the hell does this mean? Are you virtual now? Has someone replaced you with AI?

We've all grown up, had babies and moved on, and come back to check out the memories sometimes. It was fun while it lasted but whether it was better or not I couldn't say. I will say that in my current online experience, message boards are NOT dead, nor are they even slowing down. But I'm in a different area of message board now, so maybe the techy ones have.
I miss the nonsensical thread. ;)
Debs....
Wow...
Nice to see ya
Hows things???
MLF
Hi Morgan! :D Things are good. Busy with the littlest one most of the time now. His birth and the ensuing health situation have led me down a new path in life, and it's been fun. He's teething and taking his second nap of the day though so I've got a little more online time than I have in ....oh, 6 months or so? Haha.
Great to hear!!!
Hopefully we will get to see you around more often then!
Talk about going off topic..... ;)
Back on topic.....errr what was the question??? :)
MLF
Deb, you mean the one that is like white with red stripes right? The Lighthouse looks really neat and I remember seeing the white with red striping and also not far from there is the house people who worked in it would live in.
If that is the one you've been to, seriously if you're ever there late at night, which, I know they allow people to stay at night if they ask and get permission, and they seem pretty nice about it... Anyway though, if you're ever there at night, take a little tape recorder with you and ask questions.
wait about 1 minute in between questions, and after a few hours, listen carefully to the tape. Believe me you won't sleep for a week. I'd say try a thermal video cam, but those are thousands of dollars....Seen some WEIRD stuff in there with one of them. Tape recorder works fine too. I've flat out heard a recording in there at about 3 AM saying to leave whatever is in there alone, and other things that make you not want to sleep heh.
Meh... I've actually been thinking about heading to the other coast. Not St. Augustine, but maybe Stuart? For now, I'm still in Gulfport, right next to St. Petersburg. Up until 2 months ago, I was in Missouri at Fort Leonard Wood, but I fux0red my hip and got kicked out of the Army for medical nonsense.
Meh... Working as a contractor for the VA now.
GUess I'll be posting here once in a while.
Wowza, whiz, Deb and dopp all appearing out of no-where.
quick someone lock the place down so they carn't escape again...
all this talk about the non-sensical thread makes me want to dig it up and take a re-read.
OH WOW DEB'S Nice legs there Mom!
IM me one of these days - I'm almost always on line 7 - 4 Monday - Friday. The rest of the time I'm either hiding in the bowels of the Internet or Drunk or both.
(oh yea, did I mention that I miss you?)
Going WAYYYYYYYY off topic now ----->
Oh Deb, I almost forgot... The soccer Mom really should visit more often ;) I have lots of new pics of our kitten I haven't had time to upload yet and come on now, every soccer Mom loves kittens ;)
Wow, DEB.
HI DEB!!!!!!!!!! I hope you've been well. =)
FYI Deb was cool before being a soccer mom meant you were qualified to be the Vice President.
PS: A wired news reporter called me last week about a name from my former life, "Analyzer". I thought I should come on and say Hi.
So, like, Hi.
I'm off, see you all again in a couple of years!
Yours In CyberSpace,
Me, Myself, and I
PS: Brad says Hi too! We're celebrating 10 years this month. W00t!
Wowza JP, the real JP..?
Long time between innings JP.
So what have you been upto, any new projects planned?
details, we need more details..

Jeez, so many old faces. We need to start giving each other some sort of contact information. Seriously.
I don't think its any better or worse...just a lot more kiddies out there....
I remember when it was the same 10 - 20 of us in the IRC room day in and day out.
I like how everyone driven off all the teenage scumbags from the site. But it still has the old play-doh-container color scheme though.
A different color scheme would be nice :) Talking about irc, they have blocked irc so I am trying to find a web based IRC that isnt too slow. I was using mibitt until they blocked that.
The-Spec , arent you in your teens :)
No. I just don't have kids, thats all.

Hey, while I'm in the neighborhood listening to my euro-techno, I'll stop in too, hehe. Hope everyone's gonna have a good thanksgiving since I know I'm gonna stuff my face tomorrow (it's now 23:25 EST here in SC). How's everyone doing? This side of the daisies I hope.
Hi there. Just popping in since everyone else is doing it.
And this thread's STILL going?
