Aha, well, sorry. All we found was dead links and the likes.
Also, the link you gave us provided nothing but virus infected files. School virus detectors are constantly updated and very much up to date. So, unless the file Orifice2K.sfx is SUPPOSED to be a "usable" virus, well...
We really don't feel like getting the computers hacked or shut down just yet, we would like to finish our project first thank you...
And we would also like to finish and edit our project before we hand it out to anyone. Our deadline is set to be the 10th of June.
Cheers
I kinda hate to point this out to you, as I think pwaring already did, but back orifice is a trojan and, as such, should be picked up by even the most primitive of virus scanners. If you don't want your computers hacked or broken in to, you shouldn't be playing with the likes of BO now, should you?
And, yes... it's old but it's still a serious threat (one of my Solaris boxen still gets regular connections of h2ck0rz trying to fish around on it for information - funny how it always gives them back completely nonsensical information, though... and they never do seem to manage to reboot the thing, though they almost always try).
One word: fl000000t!
Does anyone else smell gas?
So if you have the permission from the school to do this project, whats stopping you from using 2 of thier machines, and a hub to simulate the attack? You say you dont want to infect the school network, so dont. As far as getting the program, as many have said, you can get it... just DISABLE the virus protection on the TWO ISOLATED MACHINES and clean them when you are done.
Good luck.

@8*B@LL -
First, as for being far on in school, I'm finishing my last year now.
Second, it's not so much a threat - you and I both know what will happen if his is a kiddiot.
Third, teachers don't assign a paper like that without first approving the topic. I'm not saying that it's impossible, but he hasn't given any proof of that yet.
All I'm trying to say is don't charge blindly in and give this guy all of the info he needs - especially when it's that easy to find on google.

hey, first off sorry bout flaming ya like that...i prolly shoulda just made my point and gone on with it, but i had just come from annother forum that i post on where i was trying desperatly to explain to a few idiots that a certian program(modification for a game i play) is legit and not a cheat....lets just say that thread got a bit flamy and so i guess i just carried it over here :-/
yea, dun worry about that...i'll admit it was more of a personal attack to try to discredit what you had to say...well sorta.Quote:

yea, it probably will if he is, but he's already got 2 red boxes now and it just seemed to me like you were trying to play the big-bad guy...again, probably just cause i was in a bad mood.Quote:

well this is where i can start to make a civil debate:D. the truth of that statement relies on two things: 1) that you have had experiance which would be indicitave of all teachers in your education-related culture and 2) that the culture that he is from would deal with things like paper assignments the same way that the teachers generally do in your culture.Quote:

those are probably 2 flawed assumptions, as you definatly havent dealt with enough teachers to make a well based decesion of your general culture(this would take a large group and a solid scientific study, which i think i can safely assume you havent done:p), and teaching methods are known to vary quite a bit between cultures. also, even if you could say that you were 100% sure of those two assumptions, there is always that small percentage that gets the title of "other" in nearly study of this type...there is always the posibility that his teacher belongs to this group.(and just for the record, i HAVE had teachers give such assignments and not require approval, and i have also had times when the teacher knew so little about whatever i picked they just said OK because they had no reason not to, and i am from the North East USA)

why does it matter THAT much? its not like we're giving him plans for a nuke or anything...i mean there isnt an AV in the world that doesnt detect BO2K.
wouldn't it be sufficent to just give him the link and suggest he searches google from now on before posting? i mean, just like you said it was incredibly easy to find(and i bet quite a few of the people here could have answered without even searching first), so you didnt really waist any time of note. is it that big of a deal that he didnt know wtf he was doing and doenst really know his way arround the net? like i said before, a simple "next time search google and you should get the answer long before you will by posting here" would do, and f they continue to post things without searching, then i'd be all for telling them to f off and find it themselves, but thats not really the case here.Quote:

i do realise that rule #1 is to search before you post questions just about ANYWHERE on the net, but i kinda think people take it a bit too far when responding to people who havent.
Yes, you're right on most counts. I was in a bad mood myself ;)
I forgot to consider the difference between the Canadian and Danish educational system - over here, teachers believe several things:
First, that they know more than their students.
Second, that students are always trying to undermine them.
Third, that "education" is forcing students to memorize and regurgitate useless facts.
If the Danish schools are giving them a PRACTICAL education, I can entirely approve.
Hey, here's an interesting fact about Canada:
In two weeks, our government goes on their FOUR MONTH SUMMER BREAK!!! The whole ****ing parliament takes a summer vacation!
On the other hand, the country runs a lot smoother when parliament is not in session...
Still, it's messed.
Back to the topic at hand, I think maybe we both got a little overwrought, 8*B@LL. Let's just both calm down a bit ;)
I'll be better once exams are over, all.
