hey, you did it! And see, this is what confuses me - this IS a much clearer image, I thought I was imagining it or something, but it's really basic blocky colours so doesn't that mean it should look better in a .gif format? That was the impression I got from the replies. But I was getting used to the other one, it looked a bit like an 80s cartoon in terms of quality, hehe! I might change back in a sec until Guus is online again and I can ask him to change it. I think he said they have to be .gifs to change though, so maybe I'll have to do it as a .psd and resave it. Then get you to redeem it again! What did you do to change it?

I didn't do anything to it really. I just found a graphics editor that would read it in correctly (GIMP) and then resaved it using the settings that GIMP suggested (with the exception of the quality setting. I bumped that up to 100% instead of the 75% the GIMP recommends.

oh ok! well done, good use of initiative...! Hehe. The quality setting is in fact rather super. Why do they always advise rubbish quality? If I made the .gif version higher quality would that get a smoother look or is just all pixelly because that's what .gifs do? and on a scale of 1-10, how offended would you be if I changed it back to the pixelly .gif for the time being?!

Scale of 1 to 10? Probably a 0. And I don't know why they suggest 75%. I guess they are just trying to get you to make use of the compression abilites that JPEG images have. Here's yet another version for you to choose from. It's not as good as Guus' work, but it is trasparent. As with the previous picture, I won't be offended if you don't use this one either.

No it's beautiful, I'm really impressed! It's a bit of a choppy edit but I actually like that, for some reason it makes the profile look more stylised and kinda oriental, and most importantly it retains the colour and gradient shading that I wanted it to - brilliant!

Arrg. I don't like the limited options for .gif animation sequences, I can't get it to restore the transparency in each frame correctly. I've attached a sample. I could correct it by making the background nontransparent, but then it looks sorta fugly... I could maybe make a bit of hair sway, but I don't trust myself to animate it so it doesn't look like a monty python sketch :)
It just turns into a smear, rather than a more Alfred Hitchcock-like thingy.
Oops! Never mind. Fixed it. I hope.

Terr, try using GifConstruction Set. I used this back in the win3.11 days, but it lets you modify each animation frame independant.
-
Heh... I think I remember that, I used it for glowy banners mostly. I fixed my prob anyway.
Here's another attempt. 23kb... still 3k over the limit. :/ Oy vey.

Thanks Terr, they look great! not sure how practical if over the limit but hey! Image is everything, practicality is nothing...so legend has it? I feel special anyway just knowing that that exists, an enhanced version of my artwork - wow! Thank you thank you thank you
