Interesting stories, however, I feel there is a big difference between a trade dispute and a shooting war. There was no military threat involved in those two, they were trade disputes, it happens all the time.
The EU has then "threatened" the US before as well. Raising tarrifs on imports of tropical fruits from US interests in the carribean, or many other things. The list could go on and on. Canada and Australia, and the EU are not weak places unable to fend for themselves economicaly, as far as trade goes.
If you want to start talking about the evils of globalization, and our role in it, we could have some interesting discussions, but again, the US is not the only player involved in that as well.
If you were to say that the way the collective "developed" countries deal with the collective "undeveloped" countries was terroristic, as we use the IMF and other "support" programs for those countries to controll and threaten them, you might not find as much disagreement.
As far as our military actions go, I personally feel there was(and is) and need for US military presence in many parts of the world. Unless someone wants to start arguing that Al Qaeda had nothing to do with what happened on Sept 11, or the embassy bombings or any of the other events, then I see no reason why we shouldnt have gone into Afghanistan to get them. Do innocent people get hurt in these operations, sure they do, and it is horrible. But some action needs to be taken.
The Afghans were cheering in the streets after the Taliban had been deposed, large numbers of them, as opposed to the meager showing at the Taliban's "anti-american" rallies.

I don't condone the use of brute force, unless there is good reason for it. I was asking for ideas on other ways to go about dealing with the countries, not making a rheotorical question (just to clear it up). The UN would be a good place to work it out, and they probably are trying to there, but private dealings between the two parties (countries in this case) often go faster than the overseeing bureacratic commitees(UN) make the decisions. I agree that thinking should come before action, but we Americans love to just jump right in (side effects of capitalist economy I suppose..)
Now for something for the end-times people to jump over: what would you think about a global supreme court, legislature, and executive? (going off of the American model) Try making that work!

I meant i didn't read any other thread for wich he gained negative antipoints. I read this thread and i know enough about the subject to state my opinion.

in case you have forgotten, or are too young to remember, this was the second attack on the WTC. After the first attack we entered into political talks to get osama. after the suicide bombers tried to sink an american destroyer, and killed a bunch of sailors, we talked, we talked after embassies were bombed.
How much talking would you do? How much rethoric do you expect us to endoure while our enemies kill us and laugh at our stupidity?
-
no i do not mean just sit around and talk until nothing is left. but you cant sit there and say killing people in the mass is the way to go. i am glad that some people here can be mature and speak without vulgar words. Tebobi, Kezil, IchNiSan, thanks for being mature. unless some people missed it. people from other countries are open to see what americans do not. cwk9 spoke out. neel spoke out. is it that hard to see past your own pride. you may be the stronger country but remember what happened to rome. with time the strongest in power will implode upon itself. history repeats itself. why not learn.

When I watched the film clips of the WTC attack, I realized that almost 60 years ago my father was listening to the radio reports of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Do not ever tell me that we should negotiate with the terrorists.

It is nice to see the AMERICA / TERRORIST POST starting to DIE, we understand it is a world wide topic, and everyone has their opinions, but we don't need a new thread starting everyday. Find an open thread with a topic relating to the issue, and work from there. I have found myself replying to threads that have not been touched since march, because I was trying not to duplicate to many of the same threads. this is just my personal opinion, and I will hide this thread for that reason.

negotiating with terrorists..no. Negotiating with countries harboring terrorists, yes. Terrorists themselves (IMO) do not have a right to enter into negotiations without being thrown immediately in jail (hmm...torture to get answers...hmm, needs some further thought...). Countries, however, unless blatantly supporting terrorists, should be negotiated with as they may see one of our punishments (death penalty for example) as contrary to their beliefs, and may not turn them over until appeased. Besides, invading another country does not put us on good economic terms later, which is what America thrives on.

Simple fact America was attacked people died lots of them Fact our country as many here have voting. In America we cast votes for those we wish to lead the country make choices we do not want to nor can. If you are old enough to vote where you live and do so at every election then you become part of the process, don't vote are not involved do not place blame because many people in many countries vote and no one is always happy with the actions of whom they vote for. Many of you in the EU now question and compare us against who we fight because THEY declared war upon us. Had America not taken the stand when it did in WWII how many in the EU would be free enough to even post here? These threads appear because not enough people know or even understand History not only of the US but their own country and how and why things are as they are today. So excuse us and the American people for an 11 year old Afgian boy that walked where he should have not and broke tribal law and that his 18 year old sister is then raped by elders of that tribe in order to bring shame upon the family. Never mind the tribal elders ingonre their own countries laws and do such things. America has given up many of it's own mother anf fathers, aunts, uncles, brother, sisters in order for all people to be free, sometimes to get to that point people die are hurt and mamed, war is not pretty and life it's self not fair. So for standing up for the rights of all people to be free and make a choice we are attacked and we respond and then are questioned about that response. How many lives has your country given for other people to be free? Ok I got my kewl swiss army knife, but it is not about the nation or the people I respect the knife and I respect the right of the Swiss or any nation to be free for this I am a target now? Ask the right questions you get answers impose your view and you loose. No imploding here except in those bent upon distruction.

User3471,
we have been negotiating with afganistan, for a number of years. asking them, then demanding, that they stop 'allowing' terrorists to use their land as a home base for training camps, and launchnig attacks from. The attacks continued. Even as we were invading, they still were defending osama, saying "well you can't prove that he was behind it" Is there any doubt in your mind, that OBL was the head of this group, and is their any doubt that they did do it?
Its come to a point, where negotiations are meaningless, when they lie and hide behind international protocol to do what ever they want. I don't see where they've left us a choice. How many times do you allow yourself to be lied to before you stop listening. It is a great saddness when, as always happens in war, innocent civilians get hurt but as for killing in mass, the US is NOT guility of that.
Our enemy shows you the bodies of civilians killed by americans, but you must remember, that this is how are enemy dress, they don't wear uniforms. If we were in fact harming civilians, on purpose, the american news reporters would have a field day, a party. they would sell so many newspapers if that were true, that nothing in our capitalist socioity could suppress such news.
most americans are really fed up with trying to defend our actions, we know what happened. I was there when the towers were hit by those planes. Most of the people that i speak too want the blood of those responsible, many think we should have nuked them in the mountains where they hid, thank god they don't run the country, but people are only people and everyone dosn't have an enlightened mind. I want the blood of those fanatics, and would kill them myself if allowed to, enlightenment be dammed. They will do it again if they are not stopped and they say they plan to. God help them if they do, because all hell will break loose.
