Mmmm.......Bunnies and pancakes.....
I agree with clintonstinks that there are to many nazis on this forum. I disagree with him on his cursing. :airoff: clintonstinks
Wow I was reading this and noticed something - that for the most part.... liberals do hate Isreal. Almost anyone I know of liberal thinking has nothing good to say about Isreal. Curious?
Are they american liberal or international liberal?
My sence is their are American liberal. At least to my own personal exposure. :)
American Liberals don't like Isreal b/c the US gov dumps billions of dollars of funds into there country. They're like our little brother. We support them, but they don't listen to what we say to them. How can you listen when your the 'true' children of god?? Of course you know better than us. I don't support the position, well I dunno, but being an almost 'yid' I can't dog 'em.
I just discovered there's a pretty big difference between a liberal in america and a liberal in the netherlands...
so it's something like:
<< progressive (left) --- (right) conservative >>
in england: labour | conservatives
in america: ---------- | democrats | republicans
the way someone explained it to me it sounded like there's no left in america, just right and more right... in the netherlands the liberals are right wing (sorta) while in america they're left... I wonder what you'd call a party that's left wing in the netherlands... probably communists or something ?
no to twist it a little more... calling me a nazi <I decided to stop here before I get into any more ****>
anyway... the scales are different and that explains some stuff to me I didn't understand earlier
That is interesting. I understand the party structure in England and I have been to the Netherlands many times and I never got into any political discussions because frankly I would probably be tossed in the canals. I just hang out in street cafes and enjoy life. But back in England I used to get great pleasure in watching parliament. Watch it some time, I may have a sick mind but I watched it for hours. It's not like C-Span, the MPs on the front benches take turns speaking and it's all very cool to someone who is outside the process.
So when we talk liberal, it's not the same so that is good to understand. And since this is an international audience mentioning Nazi to someone from the Netherlands is an insult beyond anything I can think of in American terms. Our taboo words like, Nigger doesn't even do it and that's a pretty offensive term in the states. Some people think they are worldly and have a grasp on big things when in reality are quite small. They can't comprehend the meaning of their words in large audiences. You can't even use that word in public in some places.
I think you can compare it with Nigger indeed. Nigger isn't offensive in dutch, while blackman is, because in that word you are actually refering to the difference in skin colour.
The generations before mine (parents and grandparents) had alot to do with either WW1 or WW2 or both so I grew up with the understanding a nazi really is something bad. I remember I got punished because I knew a song in wich the word "nazi" fell and "I had no idea were the hell I was talking about". In my region you can call someone you really hate *anything*, but I don't know anyone who calls anyone a nazi for whatever reason ever.
Now it's changing though because worldwars are from a previous century and we have neonazi's etc.. I don't know any and I don't know their motivations, but I compare it with uber racist, hurting "other" people for cheer fun, the bad people you see in movies from the sixties who break of the lower jaw of someone, bury him till only his head sticks out of the ground and then kick his head until he did just not yet die... to say it harsh: worse then hitler because hitler only wanted to get rid of the other races in a *fast* way.
now to the happy part :p, it's always nice to hear people enjoy comming to holland and drink beer and smoke something...
I saw comparison of governmental debates of several countries... in the netherlands it was like they all smoked alot of relaxing weeds and they all are big friends and talking about what they did at the pub the night before etc. (at least some years ago), in brittain you had the house of commons (iirc) where a guy said something and immidiatly after that 20 people began to shout. Right after that a woman with a hammer began shouting "order... ORDER... ORDER !!!! if we JUST SHUT UP IT WILL BE OVER SOONER FOR ALL OF US !!! ORDER !!!!!!!!!!!!!" After that one there was one from korea or something were they started beating up eachother litterally.
Lol I forgot about Korea, I saw that too. Imagine a debate where one side is winning so the other side goes over and beats the hell out of his opposed.
A local brew (or Jupiler) really does taste better in a coffee shop next to a canal at night on a warm summer evening with the Netherlands breeze rustling the trees aglow in twinkling lights.
