I am using Win2kPro, fully patched with IE 6, the first tries I did to access the page gave me a Page not found... I further read through the thread assesing everyone elses results. I then went into my IE Tools/Internet Options/Temporary Internet Files/Settings and set it to check for newer versions on every visit to the page. I was then able to see your site Index, I am thinking that this is more an Apache misconfiguration issue. What I am curious about is why I could not see it on my very first try, as I have never been to this URL before today. Does Apache send a page not found script when a browser from another ISP other than the ISP that this school is using trys to access it? Yeah I know... sounds like I don't have a clue how these things work. I don't... I have never used apache, I have always used WIN2K Server with IIS 5 to host web pages, never administered a *nix web server, although I want to try someday, I just seem to be way too busy to start another project. Any more clues peeps??

Damn...
I thought that might work, but no luck (tried from home w/ IE 6 and Mozilla Firefox...) Damn, I really had my hopes up... Oh, and there should already be an index.html file, unless I removed it by accident. Anyways, gotta run, got an exam - I'll talk to the kid who set up the pages tonight and let you all know what he tells me (if anything). Thanks for all the help...

Alright -
Gotta be a browser issue - I think - at least, I know it's not a firewall issue. The dude that set up the pages showed me an 'access allowed' list of sorts of the university firewall, and it was on there. Of course, I guess we already knew that considering just about everyone whose posted to this thread has been able to access my page but ME...
Anyways, maybe I'll try another browser or something from home, or maybe just reconfigure the ones I got until it works. Then again, I've done about all of the reconfiguring I can do in IE 6 and Firefox... Maybe I'll try Opera??? Hell, I don't know... Maybe I'll try at a few friends' houses as well. Anyways, thanks for all of the input, everyone - more suggestions are happily received, but I don't know that more can be suggested. Maybe I'll figure something out tonight...
Thanks again...

For what it's worth, I can see it just fine on my first try from here in florida. Mozilla on WinME.

Houston...........we have contact.......:)
I think that aeallison may be onto something? I just applied the settings changes and I get the page coming up in IE6 SP1 on WinMe.
Cheers

Yes that could be it. I have the check for newer versions set on all my browser so that could be why I could see it and not many others could. I also empty all cashed pages and temperary internet files when I close windows.
Yeppers, I think aeallison nailed it.

heh - you lot are gonna hate me . ok at home I don't need to clear the cache because its stored on a RAM drive - so every time I fire up the computer I start with a new cache. However just so I can say I did - I did clear the cache and cookies etc at home and tried the URL on XP running either IE SP1, Firefox, or Opera I can't get to the page, running vector linux using Mozilla and Galeon still can't view it. Picking a random computer at work (running win 98 IE 6) - never been to the URL before guess what - still can't view it, cleared cache etc and tried again still no joy. So anyone care to tell me what I'm doing wrong now that you lot can see it??
You taken my IP addresses and blocked me out haven't you..... come on admit it ;)

PS Nihil... don't recall if this thread or another but re, accessing net and being up north - ahh sorry mate didn't realise that BT had Overlord status up there! :)
PPs oh... yes the browser is checking for newer version every time a page loads
-
It's looking good!
Just fired up my XP SP1 box and tried:
IE6 SP1
Opera 7
Mozilla 1.6
All took me to the page with no problems
:D

I just don't know... I've tried everything I can think of... I was beginning to think that maybe it was a routing issue, since I dial-up through the University, but that doesn't make much sense - it should still be able to access the page regardless of where I'm dialing from. I've tried clearing the cache and setting my browsers to reload the page every time - still no luck (Mozilla, Mozilla Firefox, and IE 6, all fully patched/ most current version). I still haven't tried from any friends houses, but even if it loads there, that won't tell me much more than what I already know... Hmmm... Well, I'll keep trying different things, and let you all know when I figure it out.... Thanks again for all of the help.

Calm down old chap.............time for a few beers...........alcohol befuddles the brain, and promotes lateral thinking ?
Could it be something to do with recursivity? maybe you are too close? I am now getting all hits from about 6000 miles?
AND on different OSes and Browsers
Or is someone still messing with the server..........is it new?........was it promised for a date?.....people do lie to you :(
Good luck
