So am I. I shot my first AK-47 about 3 years ago.

It's not an issue of whether I still have the "feelings" as you put it. It's an issue that, (and I'm sure you've heard it before), with age comes some wisdom.
Yes, you have been around longer than me, but age doesn't meen **** to me. I've met 15 year olds that were way more intelligent than some 50 year olds. I also understand there is a difference from being smart, and being book smart. Life is not taught to you, you have to pick it up as you go. I understand that.
Quote:
With age comes a more mature understanding of the issues as a whole and the way the system works or is broken.
Actually, I read about this stuff a lot, and I do have a good understanding of what could be fixed and why, but why listen to me? I'm just a kid that knows nothing.
I support our troops too, bring the ****ers home to the Wives that miss them.
Quote:
It's all fine and dandy to say when you are twenty that we should do away with world hunger, but the reality is that no matter how hard you try to fix the system at the rich country's end you won't cure world hunger.....
Of course it won't work. Then you wouldn't feel bad about them watching the infomercials on TV.
Quote:
Because you are powerless to fix the poor country's end where all the aid you send gets funnelled into someone elses pockets.
Anyone who wants to actually help would go to these countries and give food to the people, not the power.
Quote:
It's a lofty goal, that appears, on the surface, do be doable and all that needs to happen is deal with the greed etc. here. But you simply can't deal with it there.
Maybe your wise old ass could learn something from a young punk kid like me. Just because it seems impossible doesn't meen you should give up. The light bulb got invented after over 100 failures.
Quote:
Gore, I wasn't much different to you and HT and many others here I'm sure, (I may have been worse). I thought I knew everything and everyone else was screwed up.
I'm not like that, don't assume I think I know everything. I may not show it well, but I know when to feel disgusted. Everyone else is not screwed up, just the people who control.
Quote:
The difference is that today, some 25 years later, I know I don't know everything
The other difference is you seem to have lost the wiull to even try. No one knows everything except God. And that's how it should be.
Quote:
and I understand that everything isn't quite as simple as an idealistic twenty year old thinks....
I never said it would be simple. I know it isn't. Please don't assume I'm an idiot kid like the rest who want to change the Earth.
Quote:
because I was an idealistic twenty year old...... don't forget that....
Yes Daddy.
Quote:
the old fuddy duddies that ground you when you were just trying to express yourself..... ;)
No not really. I could argue good enough to not get grounded.
Quote:
I remember Johnny before he was Rotten.... and there's that sheep in you again..... Implying that I missed something by not being "into" punk rock.....
And there is that thinking inside the box in you again, implying that I was implying anything at all. It's music, rebellion, don't take it THAT seriously. I agree with a lot of what some of them wrote, but I didn't say everyone had to listen to it. I said I didn't expect you to understand, I did NOT say you missed out on some big secret.
Quote:
Are you trying to tell me that the oracle for world peace and the end to all problems is held in the barely intelligible lyrics yelled over a crushingly boring, badly played, three chord "melody"?
Who the **** died and left you in charge of what's good or bad in music? It's one thing to show wisdom, but it's another to just take a cheap shot like that. The idea was to be different from the people who worried about music being perfect, the message is more important than the number of string used. And most importantly it was fun.
The Misfits, are you trying to say Glenn Danzig can't sing? Can't write? He must be good enough, Jonny cash has covered his songs quite a few times. the man can sing and write. You're welcome to listen for yourself, but you won't find many people who write songs any better. And as for the 3 chords....They did that to give respect to the rock of the 1950's. I'm sure you're old and wise enough to remember the 50's. The Misfits made a CD called project 1950, listen to it and open your mind.
The only bands that "Yelled" as you say, were Hardcore bands. Punk rock has no yelling, they don't need to. I don't think The Ramones did a lot of it. Glenn does, but he can actually hold a note. I can see you don't make any music though, all you see are yelling mad kids, I see someone spilling the heart into music instead of killing the people that made them that angry. The Misfits were one of the bands to completly define Melodic Punk. anyone here knows they have a lot of Melody, and they also actually SING, not just have a vocalist.
Quote:
Punk rock is no more a great revelation than Elvis was...... Trust me.
Don't talk **** about Elvis, he was a great singer, and good musician. I respect music.
Trust you?...
Quote:
Try forming your thoughts into your own sentences.... It solidifies them and it allows you to see the subtleties at work around your beliefs as you think about how to place your own verison of the concept on paper. You'll be a better person for it.
If only you knew me about 7 years ago. You'd see I've made a hell of an improvement as a person. Don't assume so much about me. I'm not what you think I am trying to be.
Quote:
Oh boy... You worked hard for a third of a year.... I understand that with the shorter amount of time you have been around a third of a year seems a much greater portion of the whole.... But it still isn't much.....
This is a problem. You older people think all youngins' are nothing but no good bad people, and when they do something to better themselves, it's never good enough for you. And then you wonder why we are the way we are. Nothing is ever good enough, and even when we start taking steps in the right direction, we aren't taking enough steps to please you. Guide us, not gripe at us. Remember, you're the wise one.
And considering my plans 7 years ago were to do nothing and die hopefully soon, I think I'm doing a hell of a lot better. I have a job lined up for when I get out of college, and I have made 3 albums of my OWN music. Techno and Punk rock mainly, but I made it all myself, and had no producer, no people playing anything, I did it myself. I also have an entire book of my writings which have been shown on a few places because friends and people I don't know seem to like how I write.
Just because I mentioned I work hard in college...Which actually I didn't, I went another semester without even reading the books and got straight As.
Don't think that just because I'm young that I think I know everything, or that I'm not willing to learn. You should know know me better than that by now.
Quote:
Please remember that just because I'm not falling into line with your view of the world
My outlook on the World is not like anyone's. I may sput off lyrics sometimes, but I have my own opinions on how things look to me, and how I'd like them to look. Given the chance I could easily show that.
Quote:
and I'm telling you that you are young and hotheaded
I'm German, Irish, and Scottish, of course I have a temper.
Quote:
doesn't mean I don't respect your hard work and any acheivements you have managed to date.
Besides what I have written for AO, and the people here I have helped, I don't think you know any of them.
Quote:
I just see them in a broader perspective and when viewed as a part of the whole they aren't so impressive
Again, it's not like I have had as much time to do things as you have.
Quote:
When viewed only in the persective of you, your life and your peer group they seem huge.... I know that..... I was twenty once before you know......
My peer group includes a long list of people of every age, sex, and belief. I have friends from 14-60 years old. As for my life. You've never been in it long enough to make an opinion of me, or my goals.
