Well just come with me the next time I have to go into the hospital. They do pump me full of Morphine and it is not a pretty sight. It changes my personality and not for the better. I get very nasty and foul mouthed and tend to castigate anyone and everyone near me. I don't even like myself, and sure don't like my own bodies reaction to this drug. Perhaps it is that different people have different reactions to the same drug, or perhaps I am just something different. But, morphine does cause my personality to change and not for the better. Couple that with the fact I build a resistance to almost any drug I am given and the amounts they have to end up using is tremendous, I dislike morphine and its derivatives.

Note: one of my doctors even tried to get a special exemption for me to use grass as a substitute and when that failed gives me demerol (which is alot more expensive and the VA does not like to use it) instead of anything morphine based. (I don't like demerol (sp?) much either).

some people do have a reaction to Morphine. Not where they are going to run around hurting people, because generally this is because of the amount of pain you happen to be on. You're thinking changes a lot, including drug use. If you were in a great mood, and were given Morphine, but didn't know it was, you'd probably feel like you were having an orgasm. Other than that I've only heard about a reaction to it like that once. My cousin. He was supposedly pissy to. I didn't actually see it, but I'm not going to assume a lie either. Demerol is in fact how you spell it. It's pretty much like Morphine, but not natural like Morphine. It also has a few worse side effects than it's stronger brother Morphine.

It is true that people can have very different reactions to the exact same drug. But that's the chance you take. If it wasn't, Anti Depressents would immediatly be taken off the shelves, as some have backfired to the point that the person using them commited suicde.

You're probably the only person I'll ever let get away with saying that **** about Morphine. Because you are one of the few who has actually had a bad reaction to it. That's not your fault, but as Dr's fault. They should have given you weed.

If an Opiate doesn't, generally, Weed or Cocain will.

Cocain is a great pain killer, and is still very much in use today in hospitals. You don't think Novicain is only a spelling do you? ;) Like Cocain, the things that numb you in the hospital are usually made from it. In 1903 Cocain was used as a Children's Tooth Ache solution. The same year Heroin was the one and only true Head Ache medicine.

Suprised no one brought up the issue of marijuanna... Marijuanna is safer than tobacco, as it takes less to get a high when you smoke it, and the average pot smoker does not smoke as often as a tobacco smoker. What I want to know is why the hell tobacco is legal and weeds not. Less harmful side effects with weed. I will agree with RC on the alchol/cops issue. Most people tend to get quite violent and hot headed when drunk. I know I do. It all depends on how much you take. Do almost anything in moderation and you will be ok. The beauty of marijuanna is it makes people calmer, I have yet to see someone fight unprovoked when high on weed. **** I'm not even a weed smoker, I just hate how everyone acts like it's the fscking devil and it's better for you than alchol and tobaccos side effects.

Just wanted to comment on a couple of things. There have been plenty of people who have been lifetime opiate users and lived long lives. It really makes me think that the so called "harmfull effects" of these drugs might not be all the anti-drug and government people tell us that they are. Look at William S Burroughs (happens to be one of my favorite writers from the "beat" generation). He shot heroin and morphine for a good deal of his life. He lived to be 83 years old. So Gore, you may live to your depends years. ;)

Unlike the others I'm a still a bit new to your philosophy gore, you're probably gonna have to bring me up to speed on some aspects of it.

Jarrod, I agree, that is odd. The problem is you couldn't expect everyone who's been legally smoking to up and stop smoking once the law changed (since it's an addiction and all), so I suspect that's a barrier. If it weren't for that, I'd be all for it becoming illegal.

I have no doubt weed is harmful. I've seen its affects firsthand on all my ex-weed friends. One lost a substantial amount of his ability to recall things, and another is permanently stuck in slow motion (makes for interesting phone conversations, I kid you not).

Opiates -- I won't touch that topic, it's out of my scope of knowledge. I'll let you guys duke that out. ;)

But anyway, so are you for the legalization of only certain drugs gore, or all across the board?

It is NOT the harmful effects on people (individuals) that causes concern for most. It's the perception on the harmful effects to society. If all people were "good" users there would be no issue. That is not, and has not, been the case for the United States. Even moderate users show signs of extreme addiction. Just like I defend my stance on alcohol, they use the excuse they "do it" because they like it. The fact is they do it because they are addicted. Why else would one knowingly risk severe imprisonment in this country. While I don't agree that non-violent criminals should suffer severe consequences, that is reality. One chooses and risks long terms of captivity to please their addiction. Do some benefit from opiates, hell yea.

I lost my child to opiates. My ex was a I.V. user of morphine. I would constantly give her my paycheck gradually over a week because she was always sick from withdrawls and I felt sorry for her. She was averaging $60-$90 a day depending on what day of the week it was and after food and clothes for the baby it left little for the bills. We gradually lost our house and her mother took the baby and reported us to the family services. Just a sidenote on that I never neglected my child. My ex was never so messed up during the day that she couldn't watch the baby during the day because she did most of her dope at night and was sick during the day. I was working manual labor on a pipeline so I would work 10-12 hour days up to my ass in mud and come home and watch the baby and clean house until the next morning. My ex was capable of watching the baby during the day but other than that she didn't do ****.
I'm not saying this to say that morphine shouldn't be legal or to say that it is necessarily a bad thing just to show some of the bad sides of it. Like I said before anything is bad when abused. You just have to know moderation.

Almost 100 Dollars a day for something that costs about a Dollar to grow and extract.... Legalization my Boy, bring the price down.

Also, why couldn't she watch the kid? I don't understand that at all. That's like that bullshit commmercial saying "Just tell her parents you were getting stoned, they'll understand".....

If I ever have a kid, the baby sitter better be a drug user. I won't trust my kid with some bitch who won't watch him every minute. Morphine.... Are you sure it was Morphine? She must have had a weird reaction. There are three types of reactions to Morphine:

1. The way it reacts to me. I get hyper as hell, I'm alert, and I can concentrate A LOT better. I also have a will to actually DO things. Like clean, homework, whatever.

2. Some people are Immune to Opiates. No effect at all, unless they are strong like Morphine.

3. Some people get tired. I've never had this one happen, so I couldn't tell you.

But for the most part, a lot of people feel like I do. Throughout history, people would either sleep, or get hyper on Opiates.

For weed... Heh, best baby sitters in the world. You don't have to worry about **** because they keep the baby on their laps the whole time feeding them the ice cream they are eating while watching Cartoons. And they'll work the whole night for a Dime!

Of course, some drug users are NOT good people. But really, were they any better before? I don't think drugs should be blamed as the reason they are **** heads.

The effect it took on her was the sleepiness as you put it. She nodded out constantly. And she was doing 200-300 mg a day. And on some days it was allright leaving her other days she would call me a few hours into the day because the baby wouldn't stop crying. I'd get home and she'd be sitting in the room with the lights out wondering why the baby wouldn't stop crying.
