It is pleasent to find a typical OS is better Pissing match messing up a help thread..
Many who post here know ME is not a flagship of quality for MS .. How about showing your balls and dealing with the problem.. If simple rules are followed most problems..virus included.. can be over come. One Step at a time..
Answer the questions.. the next step will follow.
What about ME's memory link? How can he overcome that?
I hate to state the obvious, but this is Windows ME. That vintage of Windows is notorious for needing to be rebooted often. When I was responsible for a stable of these beasts, I had machines that needed to be rebooted approximately every four hours to keep them running correctly, some once a day, and some actually survived a day or two between reboots. If you have broadband and are leaving the system powered up, you may need to reboot fairly often. In my experience, about the only thing that could materially change that frequent reboot was a clean install. Used to have to do it about once a year on most machines.
I must have scared him off... Damn the luck!
No aeallison you didn't scare me off i just had to get off the comp and i was gone yesterday. As for you're original question of me using adaware: I'm sorry, i must have missed it. I visited the link but my computer was still having problems and i couldn't download adaware. I'm going to try again now.
Not only adaware, but spybot search and destroy as well. Spysweeper works good to, spysweeper doesn't scan for malware, but instead it prevents a lot of malware from even getting on your computer. I would give CWshredder a go as well. Just google for them. Also, I don't know about you, but I have had bad luck with norton in the past...
It has been stated over and over again but I guess I'll say it again, Windows ME is really your biggest problem. RAM might be an issue for you, I'm guessing you have the standard 128 meg of ram that usually came with computers in the windows ME days, right? I would upgrade, better yet, just get a whole new computer and start from scratch. ME just plain sucks...
Cool! let us know what you come up with, we can be very good at fixing these kind of problems if you heed our advice and answer our questions. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I apologize if I offended you in any way, another thing comes with old age... impatience.Quote:

Well I am glad to see this didn't turn into a flame war. I was reading these posts (and I have seen it in many others) and I thought it was pretty funny how once a senior started to show alittle irritation with a member then all the other younger members seem to change their attitude and jump on the band wagon. I am happy to see that the point of irritation was resolved.
Now for the technical advice:
I would like others have said grab a copy of Ad-aware.
I would not do a restore point prior to the date because than you are once again vulnerable to it expecially if it was already on your system.
Did you run micro-trend and if you did, did you come up with anything.
Also like other said make sure you AV and OS is always updated.

Now we must remember about the discussion started by Gore a week or so ago regaurding computer OS's we decided that any OS can be secure as long as the operator is competent. So although ME is more proned to different things it can be secured and used effectively.

Glad that we resolved that aeallison. I finally got adaware and you were right. A lot of things that spysweeper didn't pick up were removed by adaware. I'll now run spysweeper, adaware and spybot to make sure nothing gets past. Several people have suggested that i use system restore to help solve the problem. However I recently had a big problem with system restore on my comp in which the _restore folder grew to over 17 GB in size. After posting here and listening to lots of different advise on the problem I decided to disable system restore and delete the _RESTORE folder because I didn't think with the way it was running that it was worth keeping around. Since running adaware the problems haven't happened so I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that they don't come back.
BTW if you want to look at the thread regarding my problem with _RESTORE, its still around here somewhere in the newbie security questions and i think its called _RESTORE in Windows ME
