You realize Bush has tended toward relaxing cuban bans? I didn't know the mighty Clinton was so hard on Castro? That facts seem to be this. There are conduits in place to not deny medicine to cubans. Never was, but unforseen circumstances like companies closing (outside us control) or Europ-American mergers (outside US government control) have changes the field somewhat and I am not even going to research the intricate documentation necessary to accept that so I'll take your word. :) Perhaps some change is necessary, but Castro could still step down and perhaps that is why the readical right thinks Bush is soft on castro, perhaps he's looked at these things but I am speculating. Bottom line is this companies can ship supplies to Cuba and not effect US relations if the CHOOSE too.

This should give you a hint, there is no democratic society that gets that results unless its being forged somehow.

I think forging results at 99% is hardly something any country would do, like it or no Castro is now a very politically experienced politician, perhaps too much.

I guess the fear Cuban's have and the people defending the revolution is that when Castro goes and he will be dead soon anyway is that the U.S. will invade, perhaps doing the same kind of thing they did with Iraq.

I mean they will need to replace Castro with somebody just as charismatic and powerful, you need people like that when your country is under so much pressure.

If I remeber correctly didnt president Marco in the phillipenes win once with a result like 75% sometime in the 80s. Not too bad except the opposition got 60%. I suspose that is what you call a record turn out.

Why would the US invade Cuba? We have better interest in Haiti, which is absolutely the worst place I have ever been in my life. Cuba is a golf club compared to that place and is right in line with other nations in the Caribbean. Heck we could crank up propaganda to induce the people of Puerto Rico to become the 51st state or "invade" the Bahamas or much larger targets like Dominica. All of those are just as unlikely and imaginary.

What could happen is a more violent and controlling individual or group seizing power in a coup, much like Castro or Saddam did. Which would force more and more people to cross the Ocean, and then we may act (after the UN passes 270 resolutions over 10 years). OR the large Cuban population in Miami could pressure and wage a propaganda war to gain support to "assist" a new government after Castro. Or some really decent guys get in office and Cuba gets a new stance with the US. People go home and all trade sanctions are dropped. To say a man with ABSOLUTE power is not corrupt is challenging. They exist, Castro is not one of them and Cuba’s real problems started with the collapse of mother Russia.

You know its pretty hard to make up your mind about who to vote when the ballot looks something like this:

Well let's just say the recent mention of biological weapons etc. by Bush and his team suggests that Cuba maybe on the list of nations who don't agree with the U.S. and are thus eligable for invasion.

I've never watched the O'Reilly Factor, but I hear its a pretty decent show. No I've never read anything about the Cuban Democracy neither...

Cubans use Belgian law to file case against Castro

The complaint, which covers alleged false imprisonment, murder and torture, was handed to an investigating judge at the Brussels criminal court. He will decide whether the case against the 75-year-old Communist leader is admissible.

"No one is above the law and that applies in particular to Castro because for more than 40 years, he has tortured 100,000 of his countrymen," said Larry Klayman, a U.S. lawyer representing 10 plaintiffs.
