Kurt~
In answer to your question: yes it will work just fine :) If your machine is running at 333MHz it is a PII with MMX. These are still very good test boxes in my opinion, based on the three that I use (266, 333 & 450)
With older equipment, the CPU and RAM speeds are least likely to be a problem as they are the fastest components in your box. The FSB, Video and HDD are going to be your limiting factors. Added to that is the QUANTITY of RAM that you have, as it used to be very expensive (I can remember paying $200 for an 8mb strip, and that was in the days of the 486/66MHz processors, I could get a used one for around $5 today :) ) so ready made machines tended to ship with the bare minimum.
Remember that you can also have too much RAM (NOT a problem with *nix distros AFAIK) as DOS will not recognise more than 16Mb, and Win98/98SE and ME are unstable above 512Mb.
*nix is generally much less demanding than Windows even distros with a very heavy GUI demand like Linspire............although they are catching up with the most recent releases.
My advice is usually put Win98SE, Win2K or a *nix distribution on older machines that you want to use.
For test purposes though, it does not really matter as you are looking for learning rather than performance.
Good luck
:D
dam it. I just wanted a simple answer and look what I get! A freaking four page post because I said something wrong.
Thank you whizkid<you shouldn't have goten those naggs, ******* negger!>, and nilhil thanks again.

sooooo I spelled it wrong there; sometimes you do things wrong when your pissed.when I said the meaning of BMW: i was trying to prove a point to gore! but none of that matters.
Give me a break people. My first computer was 3 and a half yrs ago and only a little over a half year<most recent> has been trying to learn about computers.  :(
kurt_der_koenig,
You are fully right. Whizkid shouldn't be negged. I tried to level him, and i urge other seniors to do so too. Someone here just couldn't face he is an ass and always is when it comes to discussions which he can't win.
Anyway, kurt , get on with your slack, welcome to open source ....
Hmmm....looks like were gonna have a little entertaining war here.
Second, Like I told you in the PM kurt. No worries man. Its all good we all make mistakes in the process of learning. No big deal man.
Welcome to linux! :)
Since when did everyone come out of the womb knowing what 386 means in terms of processors?
Ummm....when the 3200Mhz came out....lol not sure when.
Around the same time ONE ****ING PERSON ON AO STARTED TAKING ME SERIOUSLY.Quote:

For those who don't seem to understand German, but want to assume we were arguing, he said "Thank you", and I said "You're welcome" among other things.
Actually Gore, there is only one O in to "Who the **** are you to" ....Quote:
Who the **** are you too call someone stupid because they made a mistake?
Now, I speak German, and I didn't see an argument going on.
btw: Gore, why should everyone watch on capitalizing the first letter in the sentence, is this a "who can spell better forum" ?
