Is this murder or what?

Having been very close to the case for a long time, having lived right next to Pinellas Park, I'd like to offer some insight.


1. THERE IS NO MONEY. It's all gone towards keeping her alive.

2. It is not murder, they are neither shortening or prolonging her life. Removing the feeding tube simply allows nature to take it's course.

3. She is not going to get better. She will be a vegetable for the rest of her life.

4. When all of the money is gone, who is going to pay to keep her alive? I don't want my tax dollars supporting someone who will not get better.

It's very improbable, granted...but as long as that heart's beating, you just never know.

Just curious - but how then, do you feel about your tax dollars paying for people sitting in jail or even better death row for years?

I have been asking this question. Does she "know" the feeding tube has been removed? My answer is no. And even if she did, what if she is thinking "thank god they got that thing out of me" We just don't know, and therefore we cannot set a presedence that would make her extreme case the normal law. That is, if a father and mother decide to remove their child from healthcare through multiple diognosis via multiple doctors of irreversible brain damage, and the aunt or uncle do not come to that same conclusion ... then they will be forced, against their judgment to keep her alive and warm without conciousness. Even if all the allegations are true, she didn't recieve enough attention, or he tried to killer her... EVEN though they have been found by SEVERAL layers of court to not have merit, I have to side on keeping the ability of a husband or wife to make a choice. If there was inconclusive evidence of the contrary then I would feel otherwise.

The conservatives have taken a strong side on this, and frankly they are acting like liberals. Using every measure to decieve and twist the public opinion and sway the courts to superscede existing laws and precedence. Going to extremes with labels and completely ignoring the opppostie side, in fact out right viciously attacking it. To go way out in right field to find any justification to save a life they believe is being treated unjustly. Friggin liberals, all of ya. :p

Too bad you can't see the good in preserving a family's ability to make decisions of this magnitude. I remember the first life support debate way back in 1st grade or so. Even if it may turn out the Teri was a victim. This is NOW and it wasn't decided yesterday or this month or last year. In the NOW, she is in bad shape and I can't find one conservative who will say they would want to live like her. BUT since her famly has cast doubt on her husbands actions, and she left no will... they change their mind? I want this for me but not for her? Today she has been without sustance for 11 or 12 days, I don't recall for sure ... and they STILL want the tube back in. That is cruelty worse than anything her supporters have convinced me of so far... breathing and anotomic functions are in the subconscious, she doesn't even have living brain tissue in the higher order areas plus there are doubts and iregularitites on BOTH sides. At this point the body is damaged even more, through lack of nutrients and necessary chemical reactions. In the name of the cruelty her supports protect, do not bring her back now. Perhaps she is a a martyr going into this century? Going forward, perhaps in the future the same crusaders will see the benefit in researching the ability to regrow dead brain tissue... but watch they will object to science leading in that direction.

I believe wholeheartedly in capitol punishment. ;)


And, RoadClosed, I actually feel very strongly about it being the husband's decision. She was over 18 when this happened, and she was married, that makes her husband next of kin, ergo, his right to choose. The vows of marriage are not to be taken lightly.

It's the "right to lifers" of us that are the worst methinks. Being a hardline @$$4073 by choice, I'm siding with the 'let her die' crowd. I'm also 'pro choice' that way - knowing the backroom, clothes-hanger abortions that would take place were the 'right to lifers' to win the issue.

What's ironic to me is that it's the very group that's constantly touting religious values and the "sanctity of marriage" that are trying so hard to deny Michael Schiavo's right to behave as a husband.

True Deb, but they are placing the value of life to an innocent above that. And to them, and I can see their point, starving someone to death versus removing life support. Add to that - someone who did no wrong. To this they are fighting a sever injustice. I see their point but don't agree completely with their actions. How, I ironic is it that Black it talking about food! (even though I love Crawfish).

Yanno, after looking back at that post and reading your response, you're right... that was pretty damn insensitive of me to discuss such a topic over dinner. Perhaps it's desensitization from all the sensationalism that's surrounded the issue of late. Apols to those offended, but I'm still not backing down on letting Terri pass. I honestly wish they would've done euthanasia on her though instead of letting her go the slow way.

Tonight's Southpark is airing as I type this. In their usual sacreligious and disrespectful way they're touching on the Terri S. story. I can honestly say that I've never been truly or deeply offended by this comedy/satire show until tonight, but this is just too disgusting for words.
