We have the technology to make hybrid cars so why don't we, instead of subsidising the damn oil industry, tax it into ****ing oblivion.
The good ole boys are on all sides of the fence. But we don't subsidize the oil industry. We subsidize prices to effect local policy that has nothing to do with pocketing money by Bush or other oil "insiders" such as Al Gore. Instead of taxing commerce (meaning higher oil tax always has reprecussions on services we NEED. I would support subsidizing DECENT public transportation or the cars ALREADY setting on car lots. Those hybrid cars are excellent, trouble is: only rich people can afford them, and they drive them to make themselves feel good. 50k for a small car is inappropriate. Subsidize them or give tax credits. The bigger issue is, these current technologies induce other poisons into our environment. But they will save gasoline.
