Children should be supervised as much as possible, and trust me if I am or not paying for the box, and the connection I sure as hell am going to moniter my childs activities!!!!

What's the acceptable expectation of privacy for a child????????????????? Whatever the parent deems necessary on a case by case basis!

This is the primary problem in this day and age. Lack of responsable parenting!


You need to chill for a bit and re-think your stand on this issue, or at least reserve judgement untill you grow up.

galdron sorry to rain on your parade. But, I am grown. I am 23. I have my opinions because everyone has their own way they are going to do things. If Bob wants to wear his clothes backwards then he is alloweed to. My opinions are a basis of what I deem to be how things should work You say that parents should monitor what their kids do. I think that makes no sense because in the highest percent of time there is nothing going on. A parent that monitors their kids online activity might as well go take little susie's diary and crack that bitch open, hand it to the F.B.I. and oh while they are at it kill kenny.

Yes, I do believe that parents should make sure their children are safe but to destroy their privacy is completely uncalled for. How many times have we seen children completely overlooked by their family and doing something. (Trust me it is a lot less than anyone is going to admit.) If I remember correctly the people that did Columbine were regularly being watched by their parents. Their parents were "good" parents they monitored their children's comp access. (Actually I don't think all of them. I believe one parent was monitoring)

Point being, when you monitor what Jimmy does you give your child no space to be a child and learn. (No I am not saying that they should learn from their outlandish mistakes. I mean if Jimmy cheats on a test let him learn himself. By monitoring you take away the little privacy that your child does have.)

Anyway... Any parent that doesn't tell their child they are monitoring the computer is doing this in secrecy and therefore believes that it is wrong.

As for me talking ****... heh you're funny... I talk **** a lot better than that. That was me displaying my belief that something wrong was said.

The "Parents" of the the Columbine Killers were NOT! Monitering their litle a$$hat kids at all. Please correct me if I am wrong but as I understand it they had fire-arms and live ammo in their bedrooms, and not so normal "Science projects" in their garages.

Hey, if you can't trust your kids, then you have allready lost the battle, a little privacy allowed shows the kids that you trust them, if they break that trust, then it is something that on the great big wheel of life they have to find out for themselves and the consequences therein.

Hannibal Lector's parents probably went to church too, and more then likely taught him his table manners, how he turned out is down to him, not his parents....

Responsible parenting is knowing the boundaries of your children, what it is they are learning, who it is they are hanging around with, and what it is they do with their off time.Sometimes too much monitoring can have the reverse affect, kids love to challenge authority, mostly to see what they can get away with, if you allow too much free reign, then it can get out of hand.....a certain amount of trust/discipline/ and set rules should be enough to help against all of the other variables that these kids will encounter while growing up.

Oh and Whiz...23 is just starting out, wait untill you have a few more years under your belt and a couple of your own kids, believe me.....it's amazing the perspective you get on life after changing diapers for awhile...... :p

I am not the only old fart on this site?............when I was eleven tears' old my Grandpa gave me a key to "the room"....................I suppose about a couple of years later I went to him in his "sitting room" and asked him if I could use the upland Purdey...........

I read the book in the late seventies :D

IIRC the original boat was USS Candlefish, whereas this was HMS Scorpion, and rather than attack a Japanese harbour, he was going to "fish" a few Soviet ballistic subs in some Baltic port ;)
