It doesn't seem to have solved my friend's missing space issue, but he's not too worried as he has another 122GB to play with. Maybe the earlier post re admin permissions on the C drive is causing certain of his files and folders to be hidden.

Yes Moira,
He should login as THE administrator to make sure that it works. ;)
Actually that doesn't seem to be an option in Vista ie there's no "administrator" account, just the option to make user accounts admin or otherwise.
I think you have to set it up when you install?
It isn't offered as a natural part of the install, as in XP
I seem to recall that by default it makes the first account that you create the administrator?
Boot to safe mode, then you'll be able to choose/login as the administrator.
You really don't see any separate administrator account unless you boot to safe mode?
nihil that's true, but unlike XP it doesn't make an account called "administrator" which you can set up a separate profile for and opt to show on your desktop.
Actually Moira,
Vista does have an administrator account which you can actually activate like this:

I wonder if your friend has got UAC enabled? that might have an affect when using an account that apparently has admin rights?
LOL, I very much doubt he has UAC enabled! That would drive anyone nuts before they'd had Vista longer than about a week! One gripe I do have is that it takes off the IE protection when you disable UAC which is a bit petty.
I'll try activating the administrator account, cheers for the link.
Edit Worked a treat! Sorry, hadn't read it properly, it ought to be visible in future, thanks :)
