Mine is quite self explanatory... I think... It should be, at least.
G P F = General protection fault.
I chose it cause I am a Linux fan and anything that causes as much trouble for Microsoft as the gpf is OK by me.
Also, surprisingly enough, I found it to be quite available as a nick all over.
My nick comes from my favourite sport (bodyboarding) it was the make of my first real board.
My nick came from a combination of being Greek and the fact that I believe that women have more power than men and are all goddesses in their own rights. (No, I'm not a feminist, they're way to extreme). But all women have a beauty which is unique to themselves and they are to be cherished as they are the mothers of the earth.
Honestly, at this point, I'm rather sick of this nick. I'd rather just use my name: Christina, which I use on IRC anyway. My nick sucks.
No particular reason.Just caught my mind.
Well, let's see......
I love sharks - I have dived with them and photographed them underwater - they are the most graceful of marine creatures. The Tiger Shark is the most dangerous to man, (it is responsible for more attacks on humans than any other worldwide), and yet it is quite beautiful......
Yes, I could have picked Great White..... But that sounds a little too KKK for me...... :D
Well, my nick means I 'm a pizza luver. 4u is.....ummmm......well.....I wanted to help others, but learn a t the same time. So it's kina like i'm here 4u to talk to I guess. 1 is because I am as I am. Single, solitary, one.
I'm confused.... never mind.
My nick originated from the fact that in my adolescent years I was a major smart ass who uses mirc. How times have changed. ;)
The name Nevyn, meaning no one, comes from the Devery series by Katherine Kerr (the book series that got me hooked on reading :) ) and the 357 was just a number I came up w/ because it's easy to type on the num pad and all odd numbers...use it for everything (including my cell phone # ;) )
Korp, a play on the word and idea of the "corporation". Death, self explanatory.
I've been employed by some pretty big corporations and my experiences with people who work for large corporations has not been good, can you tell?
So, KorpDeath I am.
since i'm a family person it stands for the names of my children :D
I am a huge fan of the band Radiohead, and my favorite cd by them is Kid A, so KidAdmin sounded pretty nice. I also own KidAdmin.com.
Cheers.
If you reverse the letters of my nick, it reads evitagen. I've been involved in the Evita Perón Genetical Engineering project since August 26, 1952.
Exactly one month after the tragical dead of Eva Perón, the Spiritual Leader of the Nation of Argentina, the Evita Genetical Engineering project was founded by some leading companies in the genetic engineering-business, including names such as Negatiine (North European Genetics Agency, That Is In the North of Europe) and EURO-GHWC (European Union Rock On, Genetics Here We Come).
On August 16, 1958, our Bay City, Michigan, US-department, reported an almost succesfull reverse engineering attempt, dubbed Madonna (Michigan Announcement: Damn, Only Nine Nails Added - ("instead of ten": but the battery died so we didn't receive that part of the message at that time).
Since then, no news has been received from our Bay City-department. The Madonna-project was put in the freezer for a while, but recent reports point in the direction of a revival.
Since the early 90's, the Evitagen-project basically died a quick death. All we've been doing since then is come together on Sundays to have a cup of coffee and sing our Evitagen O Epyt-anthem.
Neg, you've got to much time on your hands.....
mine doesn't have a special meaning...sniff...just my randomness at work
and Negative, can I come and sing "Don't Cry for me Argentina" some day?
I like that movie
As you can guess when you see my avatar, 'Uhu' is just the german noun for 'eagle owl' (bubo bubo).
Awakening in the evening (like me!), watching with sharp eyes (like me?), looking wise and strong (ehm ...) these birds have ever been fascinating for me.
There is also another funny explanation for this name. It has to do with the age of a person. As in englisch speaking countries in Germany young people between 10 and 20 are called 'teens' followed by the 'twens' between 20 and 30.
In my milieu two further definitions have been added:
'bivi' for a person between 30 and 40 (german: 'bis vierzig' meaning 'up to forty') and finally
'uhu' for a person between 40 and 100 (german: 'unter hundert' meaning 'under hundred').
So now you can surely guess how old I am at least.
:p
Uhu
Hmm, I figure I might as well add my nick to this already bulging list of people. The root of my name can be found in Windows boxes as a file called system.ini and I added the 666 on because at the time I was listening to a lot of White Zombie. In hindsight I would have probably chosen a better handle, perhaps my more fitting one of Alternate_Heaven, but its a bit late for that now.:)
If you have ever seen the movie "The man from snowy river" his name is Jim Ryan.. thats where i grabbed my nick from .. i think it is pretty cool.
Mine was a creation of laziness, when I realized the email I would be using here, I just reversed the name. Orginally I was trying to think of something I would find funny, but then realized someone I actually know might find me using orgazmo, mrhappy, jockstraphawg or many of the other names from movies we have come up with. Based on how we all feel at times I was also thinking of sybil or legion, but the other voices told me that sounded stupid. Hence the boring name this time out.
Those bastages won't win next time!
Mine was actually a rush job, I was setting up my first hotmail account and needed a login name so the first thing I thought of my favorite thing at the time, Marilyn Manson. Used a song title off of his new album (shitty chicken gangbang/ smells like children) and took the vowels out, and the whole gangbang part.
the end
Dj cus I used to be a DJ at raves and Mizori because I come from "Missouri" a state which is commonly mis pronounced Misery, so I thought I'd just show love for the home town crew.
Wow, that was a refreshing thread to read, something a little out of the ordinary. AND, I we all learned where everyone's strange nics came from.
Coder == Programmer
Puffin == Small Aquatic Bird
I'm still trying to figure out where the hell this name came from, but I like it. So it stuck.
Where would someone get a name like mine?
Well, for the longest time, I have been referred to as being a "psycho" (oh thank you, little norrow minded classmates), and then Squee came from a comic book I read when I am down. I have also heard there is a character in the game of Myst as well as in Magic the Gathering. Odd. For I have never heard of either of those Squees.
Wheee!
mine is the end of my email hcping and is the end of action verbs like ****ing, hacking, phreacking, etc
self explanatory.
Guys,
Many more members have joined AO since February (is the date of the last post, #149) so i'm bumping up this thread for new members to tell us about their nicks...
So guys/gals... any new meanings?
DKRR
Great Idea, Dark Raider. I know I am looking forward to finding out more about people's nicks. It is a subject that I have always found alluring.
ooh, I felt so posh saying that, I just have to say it again... alluring.
;)
./GPF
heh- psychosquee can relate to mine, i think
the johnny comes from Johnny the Homicidal Mainac, an absloutely wonderful gory comic that is funny to boot
the bluecrush comes from when i was in 9th grade and really liked surfing and beach culture and all that and bluecrush was this movie Roxy had put out (not to be confused with the teenybopper movie that came out recently of the same name)
i use bluecrush in almost everything, ceptin when i signed up for AIM bluecrush was already taken, so i slapped johnny in front of it, and came up with johnnybluecrush. i also have another alias, jhovenbluecrush, the johven from the name of the dude who does the Johnny comics.
99¢ as in 3 quarters, two dimes, and 4 pennies ;)
I wondered about this quit alot since I first read this thread but actually noODle has no actual meaning.
I used to eat a lot of instant noodles back in the day and I needed a name to sign up.
Hmm, well i got my name flatline probably from some hospital thing when they go "He flatlined, give me the defibrulator!" And the ts. comes from my old Counter-Strike clan turtle-squad since a flatline was already registered.
My nick cheyenne1212 I picked because of a plane a fly called a Piper Cheyenne II. The 1212 I picked just because it's what I use every else with that name
just thought i would add as well there has been much debate about how to pronounce my name but it is
valhallen : val-hal-in
v_Ln : v-el-in
heh pedantic arn't i ;)
v_Ln
my friends call me MemorY because i remeber all their birthdays and their "special days" and they call me MemorY because i can remember stuff about computers even better.... :).
Simple, actually.....
Jimbo from my real name, and 2112 from the album, cause if you are doing it right, it should be a Rush!
Mine comes from a William Gibson novel of the same name, in the book it's the Nick of some clueless wanna be hacker who goes on to become a loa in cyberspace.....it's the clueless wanna be part I relate to.
