Thats odd, I dont remember anyone giving out free CD-Rs. You have to pay someone no matter what you do. And now for the punk rock/Metal side to this:

Sharing music is how an up and coming band is heard about. Do you see anyone charge for a demo? No, And why is that? Because they are happy anyone even WANTS to listen to the **** they made.

Even Metallica admitted they didnt care about people downloading there music, they juat wanted them to wait untill it was FINISHED. They didnt want people downloading a song that was not done.

Punk rock labels will put out....Ok and example will be better; I payed $3.99 for a CD called Punk uprisings Volume 2. This has 39 songs on it from 39 different bands. An awesome sampler. Punk rock acts tend to sell there CDs for as cheap as possible.

Another band I like is Leftover crack. The guys in this band know me and my best friend downloaded songs. Do they care? NO. They were playing a show one day and there were kids under 18 that wanted to see them. The club didnt allow those kids in. The band rented out a hall, and played a FREE show for them before the night of the other one.

Now thats ****ing punk rock. Now if Korn wants to get mad at me because I downloaded 5 songs off an Album I bought twice and was stolen, they can kiss my ****ing ass. After that 3rd album they should be glad people like that **** anymore.

I downloaded a **** load of Misfits vids too. It ain like you can find them anywhere else. They dont get no ****in air play, so I download them because the vids kick ass. I also download Danzig Vids. He rarely gets air play.

Last night I downloaded about 10 Deftones Vids and Tool Vids, Do you think eithr band would give a **** that I downloaded the Videos they release for free? If MTV wasnt so damned shitty maybe I could watch them on that, but no, they dont play them.

Oh yea, the bands/artists dont spend a penny MAKING the album tidal, you stupid ass. The record company gives them a loan to do it. So it isnt really like they have the money lyin around the day before tryin to pay rent with it.

And if record sales are hurting artists so badly, WHY THE **** DOES MTV PLAY CRIBS? Do you really think anyone wants to see Master P and how he spent over a million dollars on a lamp? No, Not when they are being hurt from record sales.

Yea, poor ****in artist. And yes I was right, they make around 50 cents for a CD they sell. They ake the money touring and opening up other areas, like clothing. So dont bitch, its the record companis that are pissed, not the artists.

This is like Linus getting mad that someone didnt pay for the copy of Linux they use. Some artists have already started speaking against the RIAA. I guess the artists think its funny someone can be so damned greedy too.

WTF are you saying? they don't pay a penny but have to pay a loan back? In my posts i'm not talking about some obscure drugged out junkies scream'n garbage down a mic (punk crap) i am talking about popular music that you can at least understand the lyrics to. So go dye your hair black, put on some black nail-polish, get some black doc-martins and some **** stuck into your face and scream the house down dumb ass.

This really isnt a decusion any more. It has become more of a flame war. Seems like everyone vs Tidal. Kinda unfair, but. Maybe someone can kill this thread. I dont know if I am out of place here, but I am pretty sure that no new information is being posted that will help someone learn about Kazaa. Just what I think.

It was a very helpfull post about USING Kazza but somewhere along the line it has turned into a moral debate about if it is right or wrong to use it.

Kazaa is here, it does not matter if it is right or wrong to use it!
Yes we can all post threads expressing or opinions about if it is right or wrong but that is not going to change anything or make anyone not use it.

Time would be alot better spent learning how to use it and how to not get sued in the prosses!

Screaming?!?! What the F$#*?!? I've heard of screaming in hardcore and heavy metal, but in punk never. I've sometimes heard it classified as whiny but that is usually bitch punk aka pop punk. The usual insult for punk is that they only know 3 chords and that's all they play. However anyone that knows anything about punk knows that it is actually quite complex music, at least the good stuff. The only artists that pay for their own studio time are the up and comers, they people who are still trying to make a name for themselves, hence why they're usually refered to as indie. They're independants making a name for themselves on there own, without a huge contract. They are the people who spend 2500 bux on studio time to cut an album, and they're the ones who are putting their music out there for download. They post on mp3.com, they list their music on kazaa and other p2p networks, they send it to friends and sell CDs for 5 bucks or less at their shows. They are the ones doing it for their fans. The big bands, the ones backed by multi-million dollar contacts and labels, they're the ones that bitch about p2p sharing, yet they are losing nothing, like everyone else has mentioned they make their money of endorsements and concerts and merch.

Just wanted to point out that there is absolutely nothing illegal about KaZaA itself (I think I saw someone make that statement). There's nothing illegal about sharing non-copyrighted files, songs, pictures, movies, whatever.

- They record their album for 2500 bucks. They have (almost) no other expenses. Their roadies are probably happy with a case of beer. Let's say the actual manufacturing of one of their cd's costs 25 cents per cd. If they sell their cd's for 5 bucks, they gain 4.75 bucks per cd.
If they sell 525 cd's, they're even.

- Now take a "major" band. Recording costs (studio time) + producer: 200k. Distribution, mercandising: another 200k. That's 400k, and we're not even talking about anything else.
They sell their cd's for 20 bucks, while the actual manufacturing of one cd costs 25 cents, which is a profit of 19.25 bucks per cd.
If they sell 20,700 cd's, they're even.... But if you're into music profesionally, only being even isn't exactly your dream... even artists need to eat.

Just something to ponder...

And there's something else: "stealing" music isn't the only problem... the losses on merchandise due to fake stuff are probably almost as high as those on cd's, but I guess that's not within the scope of this site :)

Why did they invent CD burner's and writable disk, so available to purchase?

Kazaa or any p2p is not illegal - what is illegal is the sharing of copyrigthed material. In other words, there are millions of things, from pictures to music, tutorials to programs, that I can share using kazaa or any other peer to peer.

Regular or KL are not riddled with viruses. (unless you do count adware/spyware as viruses) Maybe you didn't get yours from an *official site* or you got infected afterwards, it is not Kazaa though.

I can say 'I don't like this law and I'm just going to ignore it'. I also condone the sharing of copyrighted material, as do many artists, which they have stated, as long as you wait for the version they wish to release, nobody as far as artists are concerned has spoke out against p2p. The record industy, who has been raping me since I was 8 are the ones getting screwed, and frankly, revenge is sweet :) I buy my friend's cds, I buy small bands cds, but if you think for one minute that I'm buying a Hendrix album (hello...dead?) you'd better put down the bottle.

I've already noticed on this site that everyone is a bit touchy, I understand it's not a crack/hack/warez 1337 wannabe realm, but I watched you scorn another member for posting about Wardriving much the same. I want the information, no matter how I get it, no matter what the person writing it has for intentions. It is never THEIR fault what I do with the information, I'd rather be aware of anything and everything and choose for myself what to do with it. I realize there are people that can't be trusted as openly as this, but for the love of Jesus...I posted about why KL is better than Kazaa and its features, like the other guy posted about Wardriving, which anyone can do, and could find the info in a 2 sec. search on google.

Good, maybe things might calm down a little bit.

I definiatly learnt a few things, by reading what i have read.
(All the threads about Kazaa, and the RIIAA).

I think that if you choose to use KaZaA to download tons of music, then you should accept the resposiblity that if you get sued or what ever, then that's your fault, You know there are risk's involved.
And you can make a decision whether you are going to copy every piece of music you can get your hands on.
Or you can go to the local Record Shop and fork out the money and BUY a copy.
God it's not as though someone's holding a Gun to your head and making you copy/ Steal, music from the net....
Your the one making the decision so your the one that needs to live with your decision's.

And the funny thing is though, that as some have pointed out, The RIIA carn't sue people from certain States, Country's what ever.
So why do some people get away with copying music.
When the people in the other places that will get Sued?
I think that is unfair, if anything if the Laws good for one place it should be fair in another.
