I too am very interested in this theory, how bloated it may be.
You could claim Galilei is not very bright because his stuff contradicts the Relativity Theory in most things (supposing Einstein is correct). That would be bullshit, this is something similar.

me too being a newb... (under this nick) ... but i cannot believe that this post actually got 5 pages of replies... this idiocy should have been closed at the first post

<quote> Nokia. 20 years ago people like you would have said the internet was impossible, 3Ghz CPU's would have been impossible, 100GB HDD's would have been impossible etc etc etc etc etc.

Under that same logic wouldn't it be possible for virus to be written to exploite this same invunerable system? since nothing is impossible. The only way I could see that coming to be true would be to build the system, unplug it from the net, turn it off, then take out the cmos battery. That would be secure from viruses.

I say give the guy a little bit to reply. He made the first post a 3:50 am and maybe he's at work now... and if he doesn't reply just mark it off as being complete BS.

Heh heh, and he'll get back on to see  5 pages of replies, most of which have nothing to do with his question! ;)
Oh well, it did turn into a fun thread though, you have to admit. :D

I guess it's my concept of human nature that makes me pessimistic of this. When someone says they are the smartest man someone else must prove they are smarter. When someone builds the tallest building someone will make one taller. When someone says something is indestructible someone will build something to destroy it. What is the likelihood that someone would take it upon themselves to defeat this?
Sorry!

So when are we going to move this tread to Cosmos? ;)

Yeah trying out Pen n pad is a good subsittude for security lol :)

Okay. For those of you who put such a high value on status and labels such as my status as a "newbie", I am a newbie when it comes to posting. I have been watching and reading all your posts for the past 4 years. I am not new to computing--and I never went the usual route of learning computers that you find in people in the computer corp world. I have been to college--University of Tennessee. Worked with computers there until I opted out due to politics of some ideas I had developed. I guess I went in thinking one thing and came out frustrated by the lack of creativity. Since then, I have worked with home automation, have written viruses, designed circuit boards, OS/Hardware systems--all on my own time and discretion. I have drawn interest from the boys at Oak Ridge N.L. and Los Alamos N.L., former and present employees. The point I am trying to make is this--virus writers stay in the dark while writing brilliant code, such as Slammer--beautiful!--but they do what they do for their own reasons and cause harm to the system we work hard to keep stable and secure. I know how viruses work. Everything I have ever done is in the name of optimistic vision. It is easy to be pessemistic and piggyback when something new comes along because someone else showed us the door when we didnt' see it. Throughout history, doors have been shown and opened for us but it has been up to us whether or not to open the door and take that route.
I am not going to write a book about who I am and what I have done. Don't put such a high value on labels. And yes, there are those of you who are wondering why I am all of the sudden approaching such an experienced knowledgeable group of engineers and programmers. After, consulting with collegiate institutions and small companies, I have found that they want to stay at home base, what keeps them in business, making a good living and/or following a strict curriculum that strongly opposes anything outside the description of what the college wants to focus on. That is one reason I left C.S. at the University of Tennessee. So, what else can I do? Approach you guys.
I am struggling with the temptation of spilling my guts and brains about how this works. But I am also very business minded and have seen what people can do by taking someone else's idea. I have learned the hard way to put up front a N.D.A. In this world, people like Bill Gates will take it and sign it for himself. But here is the general explanation until someone wants to contact me.
We work to hard and so hard battling viruses and the games they play, coding and manipulation that we have lost our sight for the basics of what defines the reputation of what a virus/worm/trojan can do. Getting back to the basics, transmissions and execution. My idea revolves on the current technology but I have made some modifications to it to TOTALLY change the transmisson of data from servers to clients. Also, I am designing a new browser to work hand in hand with this new technology in hugely symbiotic relationship. I so wish I could tell the world right now the spec's....but I have seen what can happen. Also, for those of you who are interested, I stumbled upon this idea while trying to improve the stability and speed of 56kdial. And I found a way to improve the speed to as fast as the layman's perception of DSL/cable speeds. Not the technique that NetZero or AOL uses for "faster" 56k. And I have stayed within FCC regulations of telephone lines and data limit transmissions. Anyway, there is so many questions about this....I hope I have answered some questions and I know haven't answered some especially concerning the blueprint of my idea.
If you believe things can be improved to levels we couldn't imagine in the past years then please get in touch. I am currently living in Nashville, TN.
Thank you for interest.

Well, you certainly have my attention. Not a bad defense for your initial post. Doesn't leave much to discuss though...
