Funny, one of the medals I was awarded reads "National Defense". It doesn't read "Exxon Warrior" or "fought in an almost-war" - I fought in a declared war for my country. If you doubt my veteran status, I suggest you contact the US Department of Veterans Affairs. I'm registered with them and receiving the benefits my veteran status gave me.
It's the US... if Bush had his way he'd give a 12 year old a gun, make them kill innocent people and give them an award. The fact that you have an award or have veteran status in a country that's hell bent on being at war 24/7 is no surprise to me... it doesn't mean you're a real veteran... The US missed out on being a big part of any of the real wars... so they've spent the last 50 years creating war whenever they could.

I'm glad I did my job as an electrician aboard the aircraft carrier that launched the planes that bombed thousands of Iraqis. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I'm VERY proud of my service in the US Navy. I'm proud that when I was shot at, I shot back, and that I helped my ship train for and conduct acts of war as directed by the officers and petty officers above me. This, you'll find, is the case with almost all veterans of active service, whether in wartime or peacetime. Am I proud that people had to die because I did my job? Yep, you betcha. I'd kill 'em again bare-handed if that's what it took for my shipmates to survive and my country to win.
Your country to win??? Do you really think that fighting so Bush's oil makes more money is valiant? Do you think that fighting because Bush has a grudge against Saddam for trying to kill father in 93 is honourable? Try again... it's pathetic.... You said you're proud and I'm the pussy.. In reality it's reverse... you aren't brave... you are the pussy... you follow others and believe what you're told because you have no backbone to stand up for yourself with... You have no beliefs of your own.

BZZZZT! Wrong again moron. It's a declared war resumed from the 'cease fire' that was placed after Desert Storm. After all the bullshit is cut through, that's the final end of it. The truth of the matter is that Desert Storm, which was a Congressionally declared war, NEVER ENDED. There was never a surrender, only a cease fire. Your thinking once again is dead wrong.
It's still not a war.. it's a personal vendetta taken to a larger scale... You think because your Congress said it was a war.. that it is a war? I actually had more respect for you than that.. I thought you could rationalize yourself.. But no... a bunch of rich fat cats decide that it's a War.. so suddenly it's a War... bullshit.. just because your congress thinks it's a real war doesn't mean the rest of the world is accepting that lie.

Gee mommy, when I grow up and get a clue can I keep the peace with daisies too? Sorry dude, call 'em chocoholics if you want, they're still ARMED MILITARY. If you don't believe it, ask a snowbird.
And the rest of my quote said I have no more respect for the Canadian military.

Nope, you're just invading this thread and calling veterans murderers - which to me is very much more offensive.
Did a refusal to fight ever solve anything? Ask the Carthagenians...oops! You can't! They're DEAD! They were invaded. Ask the Angles....bzzzt! can't again, the Saxons obliterated 'em. How about the ancient Russians? Yep, you can ask them - they repelled Napoleon, and Hitler, all because THEY WEREN'T bleeding-heart cowards like you.
Not being offensive... I'm just being honest.... As for refusal to fight... Here's one for the parents out there... Do you tell your kids to kick the **** out of the other kid everytime something nasty is said... to immediately fight back? When I was younger I was told to walk away... to "be the bigger man and walk away"... It's not about being a coward... It's about knowing what is worth fighting for and what isn't... This is a fight that isn't worth it... It's something that an intelligent person would walk away from... but then I remember we're dealing with the US.... American and intelligent don't exactly go hand in hand.

Then have the sanity to understand that those that are involved in war go for reasons other than those you attribute to them. Have the sanity to quit trying to call 'plays' for the people understanding that all it does is assassinate the sense of well-being of those who did serve. You say you're anti violence and anti killing - then quit (albeit feebly) attempting character assassination on those who DID go. Do you not understand that your words do far more damage to a recently returned vet than a terrorist's bullet ever would?
[quote]
They deserve to have that sense of well-being assassinated... they didn't serve me... to serve me would be the bigger man and walk away... I hope I do more damage... if I drive these war-mongering war machines to kill themselves... hey.. I'm made the world a better place.. I've eliminated one more person that thinks the best way to solve a problem is to kill the other person.
Quote:
Wow, that's really pacifistic of you.
I may be a pacifist... but I also realize that from time to time violence and war are necessary... This isn't one of those cases and the easiest way to make sure these invasions and massacres never occure again is to eliminate those involved.
Quote:
Which is precisely what you've been doing this entire time with your bullshit.
The modern military?? You're damn right... if I was face to face with you I'd show you the respect I have for what you've done... I coat you with a nice shower of piss... That's how much respect I have for the modern military.... none... but I make that distinction... You are saying you're the same as the great men that fought in WWI and WWII.... you aren't... you aren't as good as the mud under their boots.

Hmm. Killing machines. How funny. Should I grace this one with an answer? Yes, I probably should in the attempt to educate yet another liberal:
They are killing machines when they have to be, usually because the bastards on the other side are shooting at them. I've yet to hear about any rape occurring in Iraq. I sincerely hope there isn't one, but if there is I'm quite sure that the soldier involved will be punished to the fullest extent a courts martial will allow. No respect? One question - did YOU ever respect THEM? Killing without reason? They've got the same reason to kill that any military member of any country in history had: They were told to do so.
They aren't killing for a valid reason... as I've said.. the deaths in WWI and WWII were justified.... They went after those who had invaded other countries... Were we to relive something like that now, we'd have to all attack the US and fight them... they're the ones who are invading.. As for respect... I respect the real vets... If you do it only because you were told to that makes you a spineless bastard... have a little self-respect and stand up for what you believe in... As far as rapes.. I'm sure there have been hundreds... I've seen videos and news clips interviewing the soldiers.... Playing "We don't need no water let the mother ****er burn" as you mow down a group of iraqi's with your machine gun.. oh yeah... tons of respect there... Yer right.. I should respect them. (Please note the sarcasm)

If you ever had a taste of the Families of the Mafia, you'd understand this fallacy, although I'm very sure the families would be proud you chose to compare them to real military. Once again you don't even know the flavor of the kool aid.
Actually the Mafia is probably quite upset with me... They have better standards that that... they know what respect is....
We're talking about a guy who has major stakes in oil and once said "After all, this is a guy who tried to kill my dad"... Why would anyone be stupid enough to accept his orders? I can't understand that... The common sense is definately missing there.
Peace,
HT
