lol his parents are already obviously monitoring the sites he visits, so when a site that reads "antionline" shows up... I would think they already investigated it lol.

Yes, it does log activity, so circumventing the filter set would seem to be both a provocative and pointless exercise.
However I did check out the filtersets that are available for it:

Block that lot and you might as well pull your internet connection and just use the box to play solitaire ;)
EXACTLY. It's really quite annoying when you go to a site and it says "reason blocked - News" or "reason blocked - music appreciation".Quote:

It blocks almost everything (except, oddly enough, MSN and Vampyourspace.com).Quote:

Unfortunately I have encountered this sort of thing before. People buy these systems and just install them without thinking about the configuration.
To get it right does take some thought and effort. This is because the systems are "all things to all men". For example I wouldn't want my employees reading their private (home) e-mail, messing about on Facebook or Myspace or downloading stuff via P2P................. I don't pay them to do that?
Just enabling/disabling everything is not the right way of deploying such a system and I would recommend that you discuss that with your parents.
;)
Not near as aggressive as the old days. He would have been flamed into oblivion back in the day.Quote:

Not saying that he should, that's just the way it used to be.
No, the first is just an encrypted answer to get what you want. It would be no fun if I just gave it to you without you learning something. If you take the time to learn basic crypto you'd solve that with no problem.Quote:

The translation is a realted to the first, but still a means to achieve your goal. You just have to apply some logic there and find out what's going on or what you can accomplish by translating an english site from russian back to english. *hint* there's no translation going on, so you see the page undisturbed ;)
Hey all, I'm an even bigger noob than TOR, so I'm prostrating myself for some serious hand holding.
I'm in the hospital for the next two weeks, and they've got the same Securespot blocking setup. Its really cramping my style, (it blocks BoingBoing, facebook, and even Google Translate, so I can't do the Russian to English thing!) so if TOR or anyone can give me a leg up, it would really help me make this stay a lot more manageable. Much thanks.
Oh dear, my heart bleeds for you, it really does  OK, I will try to explain.Quote:

I presume it isn't blocking Google search? Well, never mind if it is, because here is a link it is important that you follow:
http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/hipaa/
The point being that you are in a hospital, which is governed by Federal as well as California State regulations. The Hospital Management and IT Administration have no choice in the matter; they must comply.
Having said that, I am surprised that they have content filtering because their medical and patients' networks should be totally separate, with no chance of cross contamination.
That brings us to a more probable explanation. Please bear in mind that I know nothing of the laws of the State of California, but I do know that many states have local regulations that require institutions that provide internet access to minors, impose content filtering.
The software in question blocks sites by content category, and it is possible that the admin has selected some of these by mistake. It is more probable, however, that they would have been selected "to be safe" as it is his/her job that is at risk.
The final consideration is what logging of activity is going on either in the filtering software or on the network, or both. Any decent admin will spot what you are doing and would probably report you to the authorities. After all it wasn't him who did not apply the laws.......... it was you who chose to break them.
Good luck, and I hope you get well soon............. hospital sucks big time..... particularly if the nurses are ugly.;)
