The Old Days Are Gone....

There is probably not much help anyone can give me at the moment, unless they are really skilled in Python
and Twisted Python (twistedmatrix.com).

I appreciate your support, and the best support anyone can give me (or anyone else for that matter)
is to report ALL spam, so the ISP's can shut down the infected hosts.

I'm working like a slave to make reporting of spam a very simple matter, but also having to divert
my time to other (more money making things), so I never really get much of a chance to finish what
I start (sigh).

well, not entirely. there still are those who wish to learn, the true "hackers". theres probably a lot of them out there. there just harder to find in the floods of script kiddies. those who have nothing better to do than to run trojans or cracking bots. those that are "l33t".

I miss the days of running my maximus BBS system on my 2400 baud modems. *sigh*

Hola John. The fight against spam is a constant battle. Just thinking about the amount of open relays on the net makes me shutter. I actually had a friend of mine's mother tell me that her church's network was taken over by some spammers. They ended up getting all the outgoing mail dropped by the ISP. (they later had it fixed by the same idiot admin that left it open in the first place). I've told them that I would be willing to work with them in the future, but time is money as I'm sure your now aware of. The use of honeypots is a good approach. How many do you have up and running so far? What kind of boxes are you running this on? I have a few old 486's that I could throw OBSD3.1 on.

I also had a friend recently approach me after he had to redo a box because a porn spammer took it over. He was really pissed and wanted me to try to get back at them. I told him we would talk and I would explain to him the "rules" of the game. Still havn't got to him though.

Is your project on sourceforge or anywhere else? I'd like to take a look at your whitepapers and see what your up to.

EDIT: Oh yeah.. The old days arn't gone, they are just under the cover and protection of corporations now. Once you get old enough, you start to realize that you can get paid to do this stuff. (I currently work for Security Associates International) So, just because they aren't blatantly all over the net anymore doesn't mean their gone, it just means that they have so much stuff to do that they don't have time to breath!

(I'm still lobbying congress to instill the 30-hour day. 24 just isn't enough!)

I recently checked on the progress of SpamCrunchers, but hadn't seen much about it. How's it going on your end, Cap? The only thing I'd seen was that you were on the SpamBayes list earlier this year.

I'm by no means a Python expert, but let me know if you'd like an extra set of hands on the OS-level, or even just someone to "bounce" ideas off.
