What was the purpose of the point system ? People could see how much one was respected... you only need positives for that ? The negatives came to also punish people. Ye could attach an anonymous message, so you could say why it has been send (very few people do that on a neg, ime) AND to avoid flamewars and bullshot posts in a thread. I personally expect some giant decrease of negs being assigned and increased PM's and posts bitching about them. The alliances will stay for the positive side because (almost) noone is going to whine if they get a giant ammount of those at once. Antipoints as some anonymous flame thread aren't nice, but JP had reasons to I guess (?). There's much more attached to it imo... Every situation with antipoints has it's pros and cons.

Antipoints need to be anonymous otherwise you would take a way the whole meaning of the system. You can better get rid of it then assigning names to the antipoints. I never sign my name to antipoints because I don't feel a need to do it. (Nor on pos nor on negs).
If there is abuse then get to it and ban the members that abuse the system.

To get on about the abuse part. Like neel said the alliance would not go away if there is a name assigned to the points. Who bitches about positive points ?
I heard some people talk somewhere that they even feel uncomfortable with their many antipoints cuz when they assign the post immediatly goes either extreme positive or extreme negative. I personely find it a good idea to get some sort of balancing in there.
Then you would be able to assign for example 25% or 50% antipoints to a thread. Or balance it even.

+ newbies won't dare to assign any negs to anyone with over 11 dots...
banning or tracking using IPs is a very ""BAD"" idea.....why??? becoz lets say in my work place we have abt 10-12 persons members of AO and we all work bhind same proxy sever.....so how are you going to distinguis us??? any ideas..yoyu will have same IP for all of us until you resolve X-FORWARD also....
what about a cookie. I know it sounds kinda dumb but i remember when the whole mettalica napster thing happened isnt that how they kept the people who were banned from napster from coming back? I dont really remeber so feel free to corect me if im wrong. But even if it wasnt along those lines coudlnt we do something similar?
i think the showing the username next to the assigment is a great idead ...at least users will not be able to assign Negative Antipoints with some one elses name and so put their points in danger ... i mean i dont care ... if i want to assign negativer antipoints to someones i will give a godamn good reason too ... i wont give negs with sayin " you go on my nerves"... if i already give them neg's they should know why and try to do better next time in their posts.... so it is a good temporary solution till we come up with something better ...i for now have not thought of a solution ... but i'm tryin ... anybody got something to add please do :)
I think that you should have your name automaticaly tyed to the antypoints u give. then ppl arnt going to be as inclined to give out negatives for rediculice resons, eg som1 gave me a neg and there reson was "You scare me." now what has it got to do with the poste i made that it was given to????
automaticly having your name placed there like what happones with posts would stop alot of it, it being anonomus is just coursing problems.
Well, we'll just have to test it and see. I will from now onwards put my name on any neg i give out for a short period of time. Let us see what awaits me for that. I will include a screen shot of it aswell as the results arising out of it. (I hope i dont get fuxored to bad) :p
