I can only speak for myself when I say I visit AO a lot less since it went to JUPM..
The Adds and lack of good stuff on the frontpage realy killed the fun for me..
Well so long.. and I'll be hanging around on unerror and other ex-AO-members sites..
An old saying in our area
Well try this.. How do you get a average Security Forum site..?.. Sell a successful exceptional Security Forum site to J.M..Quote:
How do you get into small business ?
You move a big business to Queensland
JP had a successful formula for this site.. This is not to say it was perfect.. Unfortunatly JM has used a formula of it's own, that works well on forums of a different nature.. well I should say "has started to apply"... ..
Still looking for a replacement forum site... This is still OK for me.. for now..
You know it is scary.. but I also get the feeling that this site is starting to become [shock] Pro [/shock][horror] M$[/horror].. or have I just become "pro-*nix" to to great a degree (heck I have one system full time *nix and 2 on a secondary basis.. compared to None 18 months ago) .. we grow and move on....
Cheers
it is funny undertaker. this place had a larger following when appealing to a smaller grouop
Face it, JupMedia hasnt even posted anything in regards to this, they are now treating AO as a lost cause and after the court case that they will most definately loose they are most likely going to just let it go to its own shits.... or take it down....
 /me bows down to the ub3r-1337 h4xx0rs Jupiter Media :rofl:Quote:

The topic is really a matter regarding a contract and therefore, not something that should be discussed here but since many AO members are getting the wrong impression, as a representative of Jupitermedia, I will present the other side of the story.
Before Jupitermedia acquired the site, we told JP generally how we thought it would be necessary to run AO if it was to survive as a free site for members (you will remember he was trying to sell it for a long time before we came to terms). He agreed with this and said as long as we provided a site that concentrated on security issues, the site would continue to be healthy.
A contract was signed that outlined obligations on each side and we paid a substantial amount up front. We've lived up to all of the obligations we've made.
For our part, we will continue to do what we've set out to do: to provide a site where security issues can be discussed. We asked for members to tell us what they thought needed to be improved, and where it was reasonable for us to do that, we tried. We have attempted to resolve many of the complaints we received about various features (especially the AO system) but a lack of site documentation (one of the contractual obligations) has been a hindrance.
Traffic is not down. It is at virtually the same level last week as it was the first few days after we moved it onto our servers, and it has been fairly consistent during the entire time we have been running it. Traffic did change a slight amount after the front page's list of threads was changed (another chnage that was made based on member's suggestions as a way of emphasizing the site's focus on security). It went up.
I don't know the motives of everyone who has been suggesting there is something dishonest going on here. Some people seem to be trying to launch competitive sites, so their motives are obvious.
As JP indicates, this could end up in a court, so it is not going to be possible for us to debate the issue here; for one thing, it violates the spirit of what members have told us the site should be: a security forum. It would be unfortunate if this is hashed out before a judge but that will be fine if that's what it takes for the truth to come out.
