I never said that I was intelligent...and have never made such a claim...in fact I'm probably the dumbest regular poster on this site...I just made a logical conclusion that you can't be who you say you are or you wouldn't have worded your previous statement in that fashion...maybe you do work for the department but I very much doubt it would be as an officer on the street...maybe you're a secretary or work in the copy room or supply...but all the cops I know wouldn't have said ...

they would have said: I can't justify pulling my gun at every stop...they would have spoken as being a cop, in the first person...NOT...I repeat...NOT...as if they were talking about someone else.

You circuitously claim the a police officers job is a lot like the military..... I respectfully disagree with your claim.

I'm someone who spent more than a year on the streets of Northern Ireland both in uniform and in plain clothes. I worked closely with the RUC, (Royal Ulster Constabulary), and with their Special Branch.

You quite rightly stated that drawing your gun on every stop is unecessary and counterproductive. But then the threat is entirely different. While we did engage regularly in VCP's, (Vehicle Check Points), we did it in such a way as to minimize the risk by having only two people be close to the vehicle. The others were in the "long stop" positions covering both the surrounding area and the vehicle traffic around them while the "searcher" and the close cover protected themselves. The weapons were always drawn - it's kinda hard to slide that 7.62mm SLR into a holster. Of all the incidents that ever happened at VCP's the threat was not from the target vehicle but rather from an ASU, (Active Service Unit), in the local area ambushing the VCP itself. You have never, and will never, (I hope), have to deal with a threat such as that. Bear in mind that the threat faced by today's soldiers in today's war is far more dangerous that anything I faced and certainly more than you have ever or will ever.... The threat of the suicide bomber.... He's far more dangerous because the target vehicle quite possibly becomes the "hunter" reather than the hunted......

You also have to remember that we were "trained killers" - my unit was Airborne... We weren't trained to be sensitive and kind to the enemy or those who might support them..... but on the streets of NI we had "The Green Card". A nasty little card that delineated our rules of engagement. You had better know them inside out and backwards because you really don't have time to consult them when an ASU starts it's ambush. Complying with the green card to the letter only meant that after the shoot your were returned to the mainland to be tried for murder... Period!!! Failure to comply with the green card got you the same - but it also guaranteed a conviction for that murder, even if you were making a valid shot and missed, or worse yet passed through, the intended target and hit someone else by accident.... So, you take men who you have trained to kill and place them in a situation where the enemy is un-uniformed, unconventional and downright sneaky and expect restraint from those same men. Totally different from being a civilan police officer... You are taught restraint first.... Much easier for you.

I have plently of respect for the police but I will always take issue with the vast majority of them ever comparing what they do that the lot of the soldiers........ SWAT team?... Ok, now you are beginning to approach a comparison... If it is a busy team.....

Now... to your uninformed comments regarding the shooting of a wounded terrorist and the dragging of families into the street . It's statements like these from a serving police office that demonstrate my points above.... You have no idea what occurs on either side of an insurgency do you? It's simply something outside your sphere of experience...... You might _think_ that it sounds like something that shouldn't be done but it is just that, your thoughts.... Placed in an insurgency I can assure you, when your ass is on the line, you would reassess those thoughts for your own safety and that of your colleagues.

As to my ten years service "not sounding like a proper job" to you... try it.... You'll find it much more challenging and rewarding than pulling over soccer moms because thier tail light is broken.

They target houses that have been pointed out by local hum/int, followed up by observation. When they do go in, it HAS to be full on, you don't know what you are going to find.
When an entire district is targeted, it is because the area is a KNOWN hotspot, and it is treated as such.

This is straight out of the Criminal Investigations course at the local community college, and is part of your peace officer certification.

No. But you could simply praise them for being human. Those little human moments might make them rethink what they are doing or question what they are doing. I don't think there is anything wrong with remembering that the men and women who went over to Iraq are human and that we need to respect them. You may not agree with the war and they may not agree with the war but should they be treated as less than dirt? Why is being human such a wrong thing?

What does the Reich have to do with this? The link that tinkerbell69 posted is certainly an anti-Iraq War link and is using a variety of quotes. I don't remember er0k having a fascination with the Reich specifically (unless I missed something)
