Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete the mission though I be the lone survivor.

I'm actually a pacifist... not a pacifists... but yeah... if I was forced to be in the military.. I'd kill those around me before I'd kill others that joined the army before I'd go overseas and be one of those people that kills innocent people...


Neg: I appreciate that you'd even acknowledge that I'd make a good point every once in a while... As for how badly I screwed up... I can't help my opinion... I'm against this invasion... or "war" (which must have quotes because it isn't actually a war)... I think that those taking part in the invasion should be punished and I think that those that support the invasion should also be punished.... That's my opinion... sorry if others here disagree..

Iraq will never be fully "Democratic" so staying there until they are is a pipe dream, they are too strongly linked to religous ideology to do so, if your version of Democracy i.e. the Congress and Senate or our Parliaments are what everyone is hoping for, then buddy here's a news flash, the minute the US/UK troops leave, this place will descend into civil strife, why? because the real problems have not been taken care of.

I disagree that this is still a "War", it is an occupation, no different then when the Brit troops would patrol the streets in Belfast, now were the IRA terrorists or Freedom fighters, or IMO murderers.

Sorry, but your reasons for being in Iraq are wrong, if anything you should have directed your military might at North Korea, or Iran or Syria or Libya or Palestine, or Somalia, or anywhere else but Iraq, it has been proven that Iraqi's were not responsible for 9/11, sh*t 11 of the 12 involved were g*damn Saudi's, yet you continue to get in bed with these murdering bastards.

I just read a paper where it reports that the AP (associated Press) reports as many as 30,000 Iraqi's may have died during the war and that as many as two thirds were civilians, then it goes on to say more then 2,000 US military personnel serving in Iraq have died since the war began.

This thread started out about this number of deaths of US soldiers, and as far as I am concerned it is tragic, but no less or more then the 30,000 Iraqi's who have since died for what is basically a politician's decision, which was made based upon faulty intelligence, (CIA and the mystery of WMD).

So the guilt for these deaths rests squarely on the shoulders of Tony Blair and George W Bush.

If a gunboat can get past the screens of Destroyers and Cruisers as well as a couple of Nuke Boats, then someone is sleeping on watch.I know the drill, we go through all of the same scenarios while patrolling the Gulf and boarding foreign ships, I just do not believe the Iraqi's or Terrorists are competent enough to even pull off something like that.

I am a big time cycnic and IMO the people who are actually benefitting from this episode are the "Arms Manufacturers and the Oil Tycoons", it was no secret during Desert Storm that these people where extremely pleased to test out their new hardware (smart bombs, laser guided weapons, Tomahawks with new guidance systems, fired from Subs and surface ships). Oh and who greases the palms of your state reps.

As a parting shot, what is a terrorist, what do you consider Timothy McVeigh, is he a homegrown terrorist, why haven't all of these Militia groups around the states been rounded up and dealt with.

It's all about perspective, what some people would call a terrorist, other's will call Freedom Fighters, depends on who is doing the shooting, and who is getting shot at.

I initially agreed in the overthrow of Saddam Hussein, not for the reasons you support, but for the reasons for which he is quilty of, like killing his own people or the Kurds, or for the invasion of Kuwait.Trying to install a Democratic Government in Iraq is noble but misguided, their history is too entrenched in the dark ages, these people are not ready for westernization, they should be left alone, pull out all the troops and set up a complete security ring around Iraq, and shoot anything that tries to get out, heck do the same to Syria and Iran, these people do not care for you or I, every US/UK soldier they see, they see a target, let's face it if the Iraqi's truly wanted to embrace Democracy and be gracious in thanking the US/UK involvement, do you not think that they would have rooted out the bad guys and given 100% in the future of their own country, that they would be willing to lay down their own lives along with the US/UK troops in getting rid of the insurgents, sure some of them are probably terrified of these insurgents, but to truly want peace you have to be able to bleed a little and it's in everyone's interst (Iraqi) to do this.

But they are not helping, heck it's pretty bad when the Iraqi security forces respond to an incident and when they get there some of the new security forces turn their weapaos against the ones they were just with, how can you trust elements like this.

It's a sad situation, and as far as shooting at kids in Vietnam becasue you didn't know if they had a grenade or bird seeds in their hands is terrible, with the military might that was available to the troops in Vietnam this incident should have been over in the first month of the war, the fact you got mired in this is because of LBJ and Nixon being scared of the USSR, and China, if Kennedy were still alive, he would have kicked ass and looked the USSR/China in the eye and dared them to interfere, I believe that, it's just too bad the arms manufacturers decided to get rid of him (something to add to the conspiracy theory).
