Sorry. I've been away a few days and have just now got into this thread.
My thoughts:
Myself, I served the US Marine Corp for 1.5 years. Released on Medical Discharge after I broke my arm and leg on the right side while on duty. I could no longer perform and was discharged. At present, I'm working toward enrollment in the Coast Guard, and if they won't accept me, I'm pretty confident I can get back in the reserves as their screening is not as stringent.Quote:
What actions do you take everyday to ensure the better of your country? Must there be a war, or an article that pisses someone off to take action and 'stand'?
I'm not all excited that they have banned the pledge as it has been with me since childhood and the familiarity would be lost. If one does not like the pledge, then don't take part. Simple. I will continue to pay homage to those that have served before me and continue to serve. That's my choice and I live with it. I don't inflict it on any one else. Regardless or religion, you still have the right to not participate, that's your choice. You live with it. Don't complain that others are willing to.
I love this nation and the fact that there is so much diversity. I was and still am willing to lay my life on the line to defend the priveledges we have in this nation as a whole. I'm happy I'm not tortured for speaking my mind! I'm happy I'm allowed to have a mind, a home, a job, and a private life that is mine! I fear that our government may be prying and overly watchful at times, but it can be kept at bay with proper representation of the people. If you don't like what's going on, don't idly complain, call your congressman and make your voice heard.
As a has been member of our military, I disagree w/ this. Canada has remained a fairly neutral country in comparison to its neighbor, the US. They have not put them selves out there in the same ways that the US has. This is not a bad thing. There is a lot to be said for a nation that can remain relatively neutral and leave their personal interests at home.Quote:
Its OUR U.S. military might that keeps Canada's citizens sleeping well at night. Remember that.
hurt-conveyor - you live in a free country. You can swear in public. A man michigan has recenly won the right to swear in public as he wishes provided it is not directed to another individual in an inflammatory manner. If I could find the link to prove this to you, I would. But I'm at a loss at the moment. Highway laws are there to keep the average joe safe, not to be a detriment to your personal lifestyle. You don't have to obey the laws, but when you start endangering others, you will be ticketed or arrested for doing so.
Agreed in many points, but not all. 'nuff said.Quote:
IMHO, Neg and GreekGoddess are the only two that had anything decent to say.....Just an opinion. I'll go back to lurking and let you "good ol' boys" go back to telling each other you have the best country in the world....
Negative, Xmaddnes, GreekGoddes, P2P, I am in agreement with you all, and others here, in many different ways.
I volunteered to die for my freedoms given the chance. I'm happy they're primarily here to start with. Others die for thinking about freedoms which they have never experienced.
Strangely, I'm sorry that some will view this as a nationalist whining session or declaration of national greatnesss, though it isn't. These are merely my thoughts, my opinions, and part of what makes my life worth living.
