It's a simple question of priorities...........security or timekeeping?
Sure is and in a 30 billion dollar they have to make a choice :-p
Yes, in my example it was the armaments industry, so security takes priority.
Call centres tend not to have a very great security requirement, they are more about SLAs. Also most workers have identical authority and access levels, so there isn't much incentive to use someone else's?
Just what we Limeys would call "horses for courses" :D
And what exactly is a limey?!
British sailors used to drink lime juice (more likely green lemons) to avoid scurvey. The secret is the vitamin C content ;)
Ahh gotcha. So that makes you semen, uh a seaman?
Exactly. The security is the pass that gets you in and out of the call floor in the first place. There's absolutely *no* incentive to get at someone else's computer (unless you're running late and you can use their kronos because your machine needs to load up). Our computers are crap  running Windows NT 4 with about 256MB RAM and we don't even have them connected to the internet!Quote:

There was a two second difference between them and a PIII/667/256Mb on bootup :)
What processors do they have? more importantly, do you have AV loaded on the desktops? (Norton/Semantec?)
It should run on a 486 with 16Mb of RAM on a desktop.
I don't know what processors they have - I can't see settings like that! There's AV loaded on the machines - it's all controlled remotely. In the middle of the day, yesterday, I had my desktop wallpaper changed. It's weird to see someone working on your machine remotely.
Hi Moira,
So, you can't get into the start menu and control panel?
If they are controlling things centrally then they can get rid of any CD drives and 3.5" floppies.
Anything gets on the system after that, then a local AV wont stop it, so they could kill that application.
Get rid of screensavers and wallpaper, they just waste resources.
I bet there is quite a lot of other stuff in the startup that isn't used regularly?
And when were the machines last defragmented?............ NT 4.0 didn't ship with a defragmenter so what state are the drives in by now?
