What kind of a connection you got dead? Cause some of the servers have a autokick that kicks if your ping is above a certain number.
You might also want to download the battlefield 1942 1.5 patch. I think thats pretty big as well, and you'll need it to play.

- Battlefield 1942 v1.45 to 1.5 INCREMENTAL Patch (v1.5)
- Battlefield 1942 v1.5 FULL Patch (v1.5)
