does anyone know where the windows 98 startup and shutdown screen pic is located? and is it editable in paint?
where it is actually located i am unsure however you can get many new screens and programs to change them from places like www.download.com etc just do a quick search for them on google too
In like your windows directory..(I believe.. not sure on the dir totally)
the files are logo_w.sys and logo_s.sys or else logow.sys and logos.sys but I believe they have the _.... heh they're easy to find tho..when you know the basics...
ok so logos.sys and logow.sys are the shutting down ones but what im lookin for is the startup one. but thx anyways
Acording to http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip...761/tips1.html
logo.sys -> Starup Screen
logow.sys -> Prior to shutdown
logos.sys -> final shutdown (Now safe to turn off computer)
I thought I might add, A shell launcher called ShellON from http://www.indexo.pionexnet.co.uk/su...dldshellon.htm has a built in start screen chooser, it lets you choose a difernt set of startup and shutdown screens for each of your shells. A nice shell called Cloud 9ine can be found at http://www.cloud9ine.com/main.asp
startup is logo.sys in the C:\
nuh uh sorry guys ur all thinkin bout win95. win98 doesnt have logo.sys. even if it is hidden. i looked for it manually. theres a lot of hidden files eh?
hey, is all this info the same for xp? because i want to change my startup screen too
ta
nope on an XP system you need to "Hack" an executable,
but there is a scriptkiddy tool too..
it used to be @ www.themexp.org but that seems to be down atm..

On windows 98 you will have to create the logo.sys and place in in the systemroot (c )otherwise the picture gets loaded from io.sys.
Make sure the picture is the correct size (the same as logow.sys)
In XP (like the_JinX said) you would have to hack the executable logonui.exe.
