ATTACK ON OUR NETWORK - 12:24 am
Thursday March 06, 2003 starting at 6:10pm est Modem Madness was attacked by with a DOS (Denial Of Service) which took our main router and all of our network off line. AT&T was contacted at 6:30pm and was able to stop the attack after hours of research into the problem. Service was restored at 11:55pm.
This attack on our network was deliberate and Modem Madness will not rest until we locate the source of the attack and we will then be sure to bring the attackers to justice!
We would like to thank AT&T for their help in stopping the attack.
We would also like to thank our members for their understanding that attacks on networks such as this are not preventable. It is sad that there are people in the world with nothing better to do than to see how many networks they can attack and take off line. However Modem Madness will do every thing that we can to track them down and be sure that they pay for this type of ignorant deliberate attack.
-------------------------------->
I am also contacting the FBI because this attack screwed up
7000+ customers

I feel sorry for you and your company dude. But what exactly is posting this here doing? I mean you are not exactly asking for our (member's of AO) help in this post. Unless this post was to tell the person who attacked you that you know they are somewhere on AO? I understand you would like to get steam off man and would like to get whoever screwed you over... who wouldn't? I guess I don't understand the exact direction of the post, could you be more clear?

DDOS
I guess I needed to vent a little steam
My server was host to several Not for Profit Sites
including a church, and a Faternal Org. as well as
my Pipe Band and several friends!!
This server also had some paid customers.
According to my ISP it was a Syn-Flood and was caused by
25,000 + computers that attacked only my IP addresses.
No other addresses were hit which was real strange!!
It would take that much to bring down a 1/2 T3 in Jamestown NY
Because of this, I have lost much in the business community.
I have lost my Co-Lo
PO my ISP at the "Script Kiddie"
Caused AT&T to force my ISP not to
host any servers not owned by the ISP (real Cute!)
Future Plans are unclear right now. I am looking for a Co-Lo or a
way to rebuild my business.
I do not know if I use some of my ADSL circuits it may PO AT&T.
Like I said... I needed to vent some steam and I feel that the person
or persons involved monitor this group.
We will find him/her in the near future.

so...why did u really post this?!?!i havent really understood
-
Pain!!!
Maybe to show how painful it is to loose so much time to a Script Kiddie!!!
And to loose a very good business venture... due to unlawful activaties.
And maybe think twice about cracking or DDOS
And it is interesting how many resources it took to nail me!!
and now Home page at www.madbbs.com

with all the posts lately like "whats your favorite colored underpants" this post is rather refreshing and im shocked you guys would actually knock him for it
i think it will be interesting to see how this all goes down if Highlander can keep us informed (as informed as he can) on how this is progressing.
What kind of response did you get from the fbi Highlander?

FBI and my DDOS Attack!!
The FBI has been very understanding....
I was with them for about a 20 min interview....
One of the Agents is on my ISP and was very interested.
She could not log in last nite!! (grin)
All I know that AT&T is also working with the FBI.
I will keep all informed on the findings as long as it does not
screw up things....
-
I agree with Tedob1 and it is one thing to leave a little token to show you were in their system but to totally shut one down is another. Highlander please keep us up to speed as things progress.

Good luck with the FBI. I guess it was about September when I went to a security seminar that had an FBI guy do some speaking. He said flat out that they don't pursue anything that doesn't do at least $10k in damage because of the difficulty in prosecution. He did, however, say that they had some very creative ways of determining damage figures. So I do hope they help you run down who ever did it.
