Security Plus?

Me and a friend(Limpster) are takin some college classes at our school. They are called "Security Plus". Requirements for this class are 2 computers(one for each of us) that are networked and have connection to the internet. Also windows 2000 should be installed on both machines.

From what i understand we have to make our machine as secure as possible. After that i belive we are suppost to find a way to gain access to the other persons machine and find a way to bypass their security.

Does any of this sound right?
Could someone shed some light on what this actually is or might be?

Is the class you are taking the CompTIA Security Plus? I teach it at a college where I live. There are some exersises that require you to experiment, but not too much direct attacks. It is mostly vuln scanning and dos attacks according to the book we use. There is not much in the way of actually comprimising someone's machine, unless the instructor is up for some fun on the school network.

I'm not sure of what its called exactually. I just know it has the words "Security Plus". I wish i knew more, i just found out that i was signed up for it today.

I dont know about you, but I personally think that if that class is what you guys described, it would be very interesting class to take. When I head off to college next year, I will be sure to look for a class like that. To defend yourself from others you must know there ways. And I plan to learn. :)

Yes, this whole college thing is new for me. I'm currently in 10th grade and found out that i can take classes at my local college for a very cheap price. I'm trying to take advantage of this. I think that this class should be really interesting and a really bit of information to "keep under my belt".

looks like you both are on the right track. I teach IT security and networks at a college. Really fun. Security can be a really enjoyable subject. If you can take college courses through your highschool, go for it. Get some good IT experience now if you can by volunteering at a library, church or school. This looks very good to potential employeers and colleges. Good luck!

Yes Spools and I are taking it. Im really excited to get into in. Its actually called Guide to network security and fundamentals.

I'm almost positive that the calss title has the words "Security Plus" or atleast thats whats our teacher (ms. hardy) said.

lol. She can remember words just not the correct usage for them. Such as a firewall is an actual wall and to open e port "on the wall" you must physically puncture a hole in it.
