I sort of have to wonder about this. It might, however, explain the state of Canadian medicine (very quickly going downhill).

Did you mean the cost of medicine itself MsMittens or the state of the Medical profession up there?

I know that many elderly people here count on the cheaper price of Canadian medicine. Which is sad too, because we are forced to pay these over-hiked prices down here when we really shouldn't. That's why I'm for buying Canadian medicine, not only does it benefit those who are short on money, but it also (should) motivate the medicine companies here to lower their prices to be more competitive with their Canadian counterparts.

$14 an hour Canadian ?? I wouldn't work for that as a day laborer, much less as a degreed MD.

Errr.. no. I removed the address/email/fax to reply to. I've heard of the company. It's just kinda shocking and demoralizing. The health care system is in dire straights up here. Heck, I was watching a CBC report last night that talked about hospitals putting bar codes on "scrubs" because the theft of them was so high. One hospital lost $250,000 worth in one year.

It's stuff like this that makes me really afraid of getting sick.

I was wondering because you realize someone can work at McDonalds for the same money. Where is the incentive to spend 10 years in medical school? Is this a result of socialized health care? That is a real question, I am curious because a system that pays Doctors the same as a burger flipper is going to fail in my opinion as an outsider.

I think they are trying to appeal to the many doctors and other PhD holders that come to Canada and can't get jobs in their field because of the requirements of the industry here. Basically, the industry pretty much requires residency to be redone as well as degree (IIRC). There are many engineers, doctors, etc. that drive cabs in Toronto.

Law? What law? There is no law. It's a requirement by the Canadian Physicians Association as well as Engineering organizations, etc. Basically, it's a protectionist stand by them. I can understand some of it but why not have compentency tests or exams rather than require a re-do of the entire degree?
